Craig’s end of season review
Penicuik
Athletic
Established 1888
It’s been a long tough season, with many highs and I’m pleased to say, not many lows. Looking back
over the course of the season, I think the only real low, was crashing out the East of Scotland cup to
Edinburgh Utd. The rest of our defeats this season have all come at the hands of our Superleague
opponents, which despite our best efforts, we did expect to lose a few games this season, hopefully that
will become fewer next season.
Most memorable, would be reaching the quarter finals of the Scottish cup and whilst I (and most
probably you) keep thinking about the ifs and buts of what might have been, we have to put that behind
us and look back with pride at what we achieved and learn from that experience and…. who knows,
maybe next season….
I would just like to sign off this season with thanking a few people –
To the fans for their support, I’ve said it many times, without fans, we’re just a football team, the fans make us a football CLUB
and Penicuik is a club I love being part of. Hopefully next season you can bring a mate along and help give us the kind of support
that will put the likes of Linlithgow and Bo’ness to shame.
To our sponsors, without the continued financial support, our club would probably still be playing its football in the south division,
a special mention to my old PE teacher, Annabel Oates (and her husband Derek) who have continued to sponsor me personally
for a number of years.
To the committee, who do countless UNPAID hours work for the club, do all the nasty jobs nobody else wants to and take all the
abuse when things aren’t going well. A special mention to Dougie Penman, who provides one of the best social media coverages
of any junior football club.
To my back room staff, Scott, Dave B, Dave M, Jimmy and Frank, who do all the hard work, whilst I take all the credit.
And last but not least, the players, most people underestimate the commitment players playing junior football give, it’s not just a
case of turning up on a Saturday and running about for 90 minutes, it takes a lot of sacrifice and dedication. So a big thanks to
every one of them, for the efforts they make week in, week out, for our football club.
So hope you all enjoy the summer, get those batteries recharged, because come August, we go again!!!!
