Birth Sealing
What is Birth Sealing?
The journey a woman takes through pregnancy and birth into
motherhood is a significant physical, emotional and spiritual rite of
passage. Women are vital to the creation of life and it's ongoing
existence and birth sealing ceremonies and rituals bring to the fore the
importance of honouring new mothers as individuals who have unique
birth stories and postnatal needs. The process of birth leaves a new
mother open and vulnerable and she should be honoured, cherished and
nurtured for all that she has achieved in her pregnancy and birth to
enable her to transition into motherhood and to close her birth
experience.
Sealing birth is crucial to a woman's postnatal recovery and the sacred ceremonies used to seal birth
provide a new mother with physical, emotional and spiritual nourishment through rituals that honour,
warm, seal and bind. Through the process a birth, a woman opens physically, emotionally and spiritually
and her birth must be sealed to enable her to transition into motherhood. By honouring a mother she is
shown the value of what she has achieved during her pregnancy and birth and all that she is to become
in her motherhood role. It is important to warm a new mother as birth is a cooling process, therefore
she needs to be warmed back to her pre-pregnancy state to restore balance. By binding her body, a
woman's physical postnatal recovery is supported and nurtured and her postnatal body is warmed and
sealed.
Sadly, birth sealing ceremonies and rituals have very little recognition in westernised society (unlike other parts of the world
like Malaysia and China) and many new mothers are left feeling open, raw and vulnerable after the birth of their baby with
rates of birth trauma ever increasing. A woman is at her most powerful at the time of birth and it is essential that her birth
experience is sealed so that she can transition into motherhood with physical, emotional and spiritual wholeness and wellness.
It is NEVER TOO LATE to seal a woman's birth experience and birth sealing ceremonies are a sacred way to meet a new
mother's postnatal needs in a holistic way.
Birth sealing ceremonies offered by Back to Birth include:
* Ceremonial Bathing
* Tuck In Ceremony
* Bengkung Belly Binding

only needs to be recognised and ceremonially honoured, but deeply necessitates a
healing touch that can welcome new mother with open arms" (The Art of Sacred
