Penicuik 1 Tranent 1

Penicuik started brightly and took the lead in the 5th minute when MEIKLE drilled a low ball from the edge of the box into the bottom corner of the net. Six minutes later deputy keeper Sandison was brought into action at a corner kick and pulled off an excellent one handed save. In the 17th minute, Tranent’s Harvey turned Gibb only to see his powerful shot deflected for a corner kick. Tranent got a deserved equaliser in the 20th minute when the Penicuik defence was caught out by a quickly taken throw in. GRAHAM volleyed the ball first time and it left Sandison clawing the air as the ball hit the back of the net.

Penicuik continued to huff and puff, but constantly lost possession to a fired up Tranent side that kept the home side on the back foot. It took until the 38th minute for Penicuik to threaten when Kennedy came close with a long-range effort that flashed past the keeper’s right hand post. Right on half time, a deep cross to the back post by Lynch was met by Kennedy, but Inglis comfortably saved his header.

Half time: Penicuik 1 Tranent 1

Two minutes into the second half, Gay broke from defence for Penicuik, drove up the right wing and set up Cole, but his strike on goal was blocked for a corner kick. In the 50th minute, Kennedy cut inside and his strike deceived keeper Inglis, but the ball dipped inches over the crossbar. At the other end, Harvey saw his powerful shot well saved by Sandison. In Tranent’s next attack, a huge let off for Penicuik, when a great pass to Graham split their defence, but, although his shot beat Sandison, it scraped past his right hand upright. In the 54th minute, Meikle volleyed a Gay corner kick first time, but his effort went high over the bar.

Minutes later, a good run by Kennedy set up Coleman, but he somehow scooped the ball over the bar from eight yards. With Tranent pressing the game hard, Salton out jumped the Penicuik defence at a corner kick, but his header went over the bar. In the 65th minute, Graham was unlucky to see his shot crash back off the Penicuik crossbar and cleared. Penicuik continued give possession away and in the 80th minute, Graham had another strike on goal that went inches wide of the target. Penicuik’s only response was a quick strike by Walker that scraped the upright.
