However, Robertson was only inches away from heading home. Penicuik continued to press the home side and showed some neat passing. Whitburn’s first opportunity arose from a mistake in midfield that allowed them to drive into the penalty box, but Meikle was able to block the shot on goal and the danger was cleared. In the 21^st minute, Bald came off his line to intercept a dangerous cross into the box. Minutes later, Bald was again called into action when he got down low to his left to save a well stuck shot. In 37^th  minute, Meikle got above the Whitburn defence, but headed the McDermott corner over the bar. At the other end, Bald saved a long range Martindale strike. Then Robertson again was inches away from slotting home another Penicuik corner kick. In Whitburn’s next attack, a cross to the back post was headed by Craig, but with keeper Bald beaten, the ball came back off the crossbar and was cleared. Right on half time, a similar cross caught out the Penicuik defence, but Wilson headed well wide of the target. Half Time: Whitburn 0 Penicuik 0 In the opening minute of the second half, a MacKay free kick got past the defensive wall, but Bald was well placed to save. Penicuik retaliated immediately when keeper Carlin flapped at a cross and Walker saw his shot blocked. The ball was crossed in again and Carlin again failed to clear properly, but eventually the ball was thumped clear. In the 50^th minute, Bald pulled off a great one handed save to deny Miller. Five minutes later, after good work by McDermott, Penicuik earned a corner. Gallagher floated the corner kick to the back post where MEIKLE rose above the Whitburn defence to power home the opener with a great header. In the 58^th minute, Bald tipped a fierce shot onto the crossbar and away for a corner. Two minutes later, a long ball from defence by Whitburn deceived the Penicuik defence, but Miller rushed his shot and Bald saved easily. Miller should have scored immediately afterwards but dragged his shot along the face of the goal when it seemed easier to score. In the 68^th minute, a great ball out of defence picked out BRIGAIN just inside his own half. He drove into the left corner of the penalty area, cut back to his right and slotted the ball into the opposite bottom corner of the net, giving Carlin no chance. In the 76^th minute a Hampson free kick was well saved by ball and cleared.
