Carnoustie 3 Penicuik 0

In the opening minutes both sides were evenly matched, but Carnoustie looked sharper and quicker to the ball. In the 7th minute, livewire McIlravey got past his marker on the right, whipped in a low ball into the six yard box, but his cross was missed by everyone. Then Park had a go from 30 yards, but his effort went high and wide of the target. In the 10th minute, a ball over the top of the Penicuik midfield picked out Cumming who beat two Penicuik defenders and crossed the ball low to the front post where REILLY nipped in to slam the ball into the net off the post. Penicuik gradually fought back to get on top and Korinek came close with a header off a Montgomery cross. However, McIlravey continued to be a thorn in Penicuik’s flesh and was unlucky to see his dangerous cross cut out for a corner. In the 22nd minute, Carnoustie broke up the right again and Clark’s cross into the box was headed by Cumming, but the ball crashed off the post and cleared. At the other end, another good cross by Montgomery was hit first time by Coleman, but deflected inches wide for a corner.

Penicuik continued to threaten down the left through Montgomery and another of his crosses was met by Korinek at the back post, but keeper Jamieson was there to block and clear. Seconds later, Jamieson was again in action to turn a rasping shot by Coleman round the post for a corner kick. Then, against the run of play, with Penicuik claiming for a foul, the ball was played to CUMMING who rounded Ramage to slot home. Despite the loss of a second goal Penicuik continued to press and were unlucky to see two strikes on goal blocked by last gasp defending. Then a quick break by Carnoustie saw Reilly send a defence splitting pass to Cumming, but Ramage pulled off a great one handed save. Just on half time, Korinek showed neat skills to turn his man, but his powerful shot was deflected inches wide for a corner. From the corner, Kelly headed straight into the arms of the keeper.

Half Time: Carnoustie 2 Penicuik 0

Two minutes into the second half, a diagonal pass by Reilly picked Carnoustie’s right full back NAREY, he looked up and sent over a cross into the box that deceived everyone and ended up in the back of the net – a real killer blow for Penicuik. Two minutes later, Korinek picked out Cole who played in Montgomery. He charged in on goal, but his shot went inches wide of the junction of the post and crossbar. In the 55th minute, a free kick to Penicuik was headed back into the six yard box by Meikle where Korinek got his head to the ball but failed to hit the target. In the 71st minute, Carnoustie broke through midfield where substitute Smith let fly, but his strike went high and wide of the goal. Two minutes later, Korinek got past his marker to send over a pinpoint cross that Noon got his head to, but keeper Jamieson, at full stretch, tipped the ball over the bar. From the corner, the ball was played short to Korinek who whipped the ball to the back post from where Meikle headed into the side netting.

Two minutes later, Korinek and Barr combined well to set up Cole, but his curling let foot shot went inches wide of the target with Jamieson watching anxiously. In 83rd minute, following a corner to Carnoustie, Ramage pulled off the save of the game when he dived full length to parry a powerful shot from the edge of the penalty area for a corner. Minutes later, Cole’s pace got him round the back of the Carnoustie defence and cut the ball back to Gay at the edge of the box, but his shot went a yard over the bar. Carnoustie’s pace, movement off the ball and their sharpness in front of goal were the differences between the two sides, and this defeat now puts Penicuik in the thick off the relegation zone.
