He rounded keeper Jackson only to see the trialist get back to clear the ball off the goal line. Then a long ball into the box saw T Hendry’s diving header saved by Tait. Play then swung to the other end where Kateleza waltzed past three defenders to cross the ball into the six yard box. The ball was headed out and picked up by Connolly whose strike was turned away by Jackson. Minutes later a defence splitting pass by F Hendry set T Hendry free on the right. He crossed the ball into the box and only a great tackle by Forbes prevented Cameron from tapping home. In the 16th minute, a Stevenson free kick flashed narrowly wide of Jackson’s right hand post. Two minutes later, Penicuik were awarded a penalty when Jardine pulled down Somerville. STEVENSON converted the spot kick. Then a Tynecastle free kick struck by Cameron, curled round the defensive wall but was comfortably saved by Tait. On the half hour, another free kick to Tynecastle, taken by Anderson, was again comfortably saved by Tait. Then in the 34th minute, a Young pass back was intercepted by CAMERON who took full advantage to equalise for Tynecastle. Just before half time, a clever Kateleza pass set up Somerville, but his effort went past the post. Half Time: Penicuik 1 Tynecastle 1 In the opening minute of the second half T Hendry tried to lob Tait from the halfway line, but his attempt went well wide of the goal. Then, in the 52nd minute, Tynecastle were awarded a penalty kick when Butler was adjudged to be fouled by Young. Cameron took the spot kick but Tait pulled of a great save and also blocked the follow up. Immediately afterwards Tynecastle came close to scoring when a shot went inches wide of the Penicuik goal. In the 57th minute, Penicuik had a strong shout for a penalty when Viola was tackled from behind by Anderson but the referee was unmoved. Then a strike by T Hendry was well saved by Tait. At the other end, Somerville came close with a strike that went inches wide of the upright. In the 72nd minute, Stewart was clean through when he was tripped by Butler but the referee waved play on with players on both sides looking bemused. One minute later, Tynecastle had the ball in the net, but Fisher was ruled offside by the far side assistant. Minutes later, a free kick to Penicuik was headed out to the edge of the penalty area where VIOLA volleyed the ball into the back of the net to give Penicuik the lead. Then in the 83rd minute Stevenson won the ball and curled the ball towards the top corner of the net but keeper Jackson at full stretch tipped the ball round the post for a corner kick. From the corner, the ball was cleared away but fell to Stevenson who saw his long range effort crash back off the post. Right on full time, substitute Reid got past Jardine to create a great chance, but his weak shot was easily saved by Jackson. Full Time: Penicuik 2 Tynecastle 1
