Penicuik Athletic 2 Musselburgh 3 Penicuik : Tait, Baptie, Young, Connolly, Watson, Devlin, Somerville (c), Tansey, Lamb, Thomson, Stevenson SUBS Watt, Page, Kateleza, Edwards, Reid, Viola, Collins Musselburgh: McGurk, C Donaldson, Orru, O’Kane, Moffat, King (c), Whyte, Reid, B Donaldson, Downie, Evans SUBS Robinson, Myles, McManus, Jeffries, Thomson, White, Ballantyne Musselburgh were quick off the mark and Downie had an early chance but his weak shot was comfortably saved by Tait. Then in the 6th minute, Musselburgh took the lead when MOFFAT saw his shot dip over Tait into the net. However, two minutes later a Baptie cross was headed down by Devlin and SOMERVILLE tapped the ball home from close range. Then a driving run by Tansey saw keeper McGurk block Tansey’s strike for a corner. Immediately afterwards Tansey was again in action only to see his header o wide of the target. On the quarter hour a Moffat strike was well saved by Tait low down at his left hand post. Minutes later Moffat set Downie free on the right, but his searching cross along the six yard box was missed by everyone. Musselburgh were piling on the pressure and on the half hour Moffat had a long range strike brilliantly saved by Tait. Just before half time, Evans saw his effort beat Tait but scrape past the far post. Half Time: Penicuik 1 Musselburgh 1 Four minutes into the half and a corner kick to Musselburgh saw a scissor kick by KING go through a ruck of players into the net to restore Musselburgh’s lead. In the 55th minute, a back pass by Thomson saw keeper Tait scramble to clear the ball off the goal line. Ten minutes later, a Penicuik attack saw Devlin curl the ball into the box but keeper McGurk was well placed to gather the cross. Then a free kick to Penicuik was headed by Connolly but again, easily saved by McGurk. Penicuik equalised in the 84th minute when a Baptie corner kick saw SOMERVILLE’ s glancing header beat McGurk at the near post. Minutes later, a Devlin strike drifted just wide of the upright. In the 85th minute Penicuik had a great chance to take the lead when a pass back to keeper McGurk saw Devlin get to the ball first but his attempt to chip the keeper was blocked by McGurk and the danger was cleared. Full Time: Penicuik 2 Musselburgh 2 Seven minutes into extra time and Musselburgh had a great chance, and Evans chipped the ball past the advancing Tait only to see the ball go wide of the goal. In the 14th minute of extra time, Evans got round the back of the Penicuik defence, cut the ball back and Myles somehow failed to hit the target when it seemed easier to score. Then in the 18th minute of extra time, Musselburgh scored the winning goal when DOWNIE slotted home into the bottom corner of the net. Final Score: Penicuik 2 Musselburgh 3 (AET)
