In the 10th minute, Devlin set up Tansey but his effort flew over the bar. Penicuik took the lead in the 15th minute when Forbes set Joe VIOLA free who cut across from the right and curled the ball past keeper Money. Shortly afterwards a Crossgates free kick to the back post saw a header comfortably saved by Tait. Then in the 26th minute, Paul TANSEY showed great determination to rescue a long cross and turn in the box to rifle the ball into the top corner of the net. On the half hour another free kick to Crossgates saw a long range strike well saved by keeper Tait. Penicuik should have increased their lead when Stevenson sent over the perfect to pick out Devlin but the keeper reacted twice to block Devlin’s shot and then Viola’s effort from the rebound. Then a Baptie free kick curled round the defensive wall but keeper Mooney was well placed to save. Just before half time, a chance fell to Crossgates’ Leighton but his strike flew high and wide of the target. Half-time Penicuik 2 Crossgates 0 Into the second half and a substitution early for Penicuik saw Watson replaced Lamb. 51 minutes and a great cross into the box by Forbes was headed over the bar by Tansey. Then in the 57th minute Penicuik were awarded a penalty kick when a Tansey shot was handled in the box. Craig STEVENSON stepped up and drilled the ball keeper Mooney to make the score Penicuik 3-1. In the 70th minute Penicuik made another change with Somerville replacing Devlin and it proved to be a wise substitution as 2 minutes later SOMERVILLE was on spot to knock the ball home from close range. Then Tansey slipped the past his marker and chased the ball down to intercept the defenders back pass and only a last gasp tackle prevented Viola from slotting home. The ball then fell to Somerville who saw his strike brilliantly tipped over the bar by keeper Mooney. From the corner, Forbes headed the ball back across goal and a defender headed the ball into the goalkeeper’s hands. Minutes later, Somerville was denied by Mooney when he tipped away his powerful strike. Penicuik continued to dominate creating several chances and eventually ran out convincing winners.
