Penicuik started brightly and should have scored in the first minute, but Lough’s strike went straight to keeper Winton. Scone
replied with a strike from twenty yards, but Bejaoui saved comfortably. Then Penicuik attacked down the left wing and a Noble
cross was deflected over his own crossbar by Laing. Minutes later Mackie had Bejaoui scrambling across his goal as the ball
went narrowly past the upright. At the other end, Penicuik should have scored when the ball fell to Lough, but keeper Winton
pulled off an instinctive save to deny the striker. In their next attack, a timely intervention by Moon prevented Penicuik taking the
lead. The visitors were under constant pressure and just when it looked like they would hold out to half time, a great diagonal
Jancyzk pass picked out Montgomery on the left wing. He crossed the ball into the box and McCALLUM bulleted home a
powerful header taking a head knock at the same time.
Half Time: Penicuik 1 Scone 0
Again, in the opening minute of the half, a perfect cross into the box just had to be touched to score, but the ball was missed by
Scott and then McCallum much to the relief of the Jaggies. In the 59th minute, a free kick to Scone was being shepherded out
by Young when Nije nipped the ball from the defender and set up Mackie. His shot beat Bejaoui, but Forbes cleared the ball on
the goal line. Three minutes later, Barr had a chance, but blasted high over the bar. Then the same player was denied by a
great save by keeper Winton. Shortly afterwards a Gay cross split the Jaggies defence but Lough couldn’t tuck the ball away. In
the 80th minute, a long clearance from defence picked out Scone substitute Ovolio but his strike was turned round the post by
Bejaoui. Three minutes later, a Nije strike was deflected inches past the post. Penicuik sealed the victory in the 87th minute
when LOUGH headed home a cross by Gay.
Final Score: Penicuik 2 Scone 0
