In the 5th minute a neat move was finished off by Barr but Connolly was well placed to save. Then in the 8th minute just as Lough was flagged offside, he suddenly pulled up with an Achilles heel injury. Four minutes later, a Jancyzk free kick picked out Montgomery on the left wing. His high looping cross beat keeper Connolly but hit the woodwork then the keeper and was cleared. In the 18th minute keeper Easton was on hand to block a glancing header off a corner kick. One minute later, a long ball caught out the Penicuik defence, but Easton’s instinctive one handed save denied Richford. On the half hour, Somerville headed over a testing Montgomery cross. Immediately afterwards, a shot by Jones was comfortably saved by Connolly. Just before half time, K Scott crossed the ball into the heart of the Fauldhouse penalty area and just as his twin was about to connect, Watson hooked the ball away over his own crossbar. Then at the other end, Gilchrist had a chance, but he dragged his shot across the face of the goal.   Half time: Fauldhouse 0 Penicuik 0 The first chance of the half fell to Fauldhouse, but Gilchrist’s free kick from just out the penalty box flew high over the bar.  Two minutes later, Watson had to intervene to cut out a Scott cross, heading the ball over his own bar. In the 53rd minute, Easton pulled off an excellent save and Forbes booted the ball clear. Six minutes later, a Forbes cross caught out the home defence, but both Somerville and Montgomery failed to connect when it seemed a goal was on the cards. Then in the 63rd minute, another great cross by Forbes saw S Scott’s glancing header go narrowly past the post. At the other end, a Weir free kick went inches wide of the target. In the 82nd minute, a strong run across the edge of the box by Somerville saw his effort go high and wide. In their next attack, a Jancyzk cross low into the box was flicked goal wards by Somerville, but Connolly at full stretch got a hand to the ball to save the day. Penicuik piled on the pressure and just before full time, Hume saw his volley go inches passed the junction of the bar and post. Penicuik had one last chance from a corner kick when Forbes tried a volley off a corner kick, but the ball flew over the bar. Full time: Fauldhouse 0 Penicuik 0
