At the  other end a looping Broughty header was comfortably gathered by Easton. Then an excellent driving run by Barr set up  Montgomery who drilled a low cross into the six yard box, but Lannen was on hand to deflect the ball away for a corner.  Penicuik took the lead in the 6th minute when a Jancyzk cross was headed on by McCallum to GAY who slammed the ball into  the far bottom corner of the net. Then in the 11th minute, as McLellan drove into the box, he was tripped by Montgomery and  McCORD converted the spot kick. Penicuik were now dominating the play  with Gay becoming more and more influential and in the 55th minute an excellent Gay cross saw Somerville’s diving header  well saved by Ross. Two minutes later Broughty were forced into conceding a corner when Blair cut out a dangerous  Montgomery cross. Then Blair was again in action heading a McCallum cross over his own bar. In a rare Broughty attack,  Buchan blasted the ball high over the Penicuik bar. In the 65th minute, following a free kick to Broughty, McLellan was denied by  an excellent save by keeper Easton. In Penicuik’s next attack, another testing cross by Gay caused havoc in the Broughty  penalty area but the defence held firm. In the 68th minute Noble let fly from 30 yards, but his strike went a foot wide of the  upright. With Penicuik piling on the pressure, everyone in the ground thought they had scored off a corner kick, but the ball went  past the post and nestled in the side netting. In the 71st minute, another great cross by Gay into the box saw McCallum get to  the ball but couldn’t believe his eyes as keeper Ross pulled off the save of the match. Minutes later, it was Easton’s turn to get  in on the action when he had to rush from goal and dive at the feet of McConnachie to clear then danger. In the 80th minute, a  McCallum free kick beat the defensive wall but went straight into the arms of Ross. Just before the final whistle, Gay drove at  the visitor’s defence and let fly only to see his effort deflected away for a corner kick. Two minutes into injury time and a last  gasp effort by Broughty almost brought a goal but the Penicuik defence stood strong.  Final Score: Penicuik 1 Broughty 1
