Penicuik travelled to Camelon looking to maintain their unbeaten away
record against a home side yet to win at Carmuirs Park. After a
minutes silence for ex-Camelon player Mark Shanks who passed away
during the week it was the home side that had the first effort with three
minutes gone as McLarens’s shot from 30 yard went well wide of the
target. Play went to the other end and Lough’s cross flashed across
the box to be put behind for a corner, and Jancyzk’s excellent delivery
was met by a powerful White header which was cleared off the line.
Ryan Gay was next to try his luck but saw his shot from the edge of
the box deflected for a corner. It was a hectic start and with eight
minutes gone Ure’s 25 yard effort was touched behind by Bejaoui who
was called into action again a minute later as David Grant made
space in the box but saw his shot saved by the visitors keeper.
The game settled down and it was the 19th minute before either keeper was tested again when Scott for the home side tested Bejaoui
but his shot was easily saved. The Mariners looked dangerous as they attacked and two minutes later Kelly twisted and turned in the box
before seeing his shot blocked for a corner. The home side opened the scoring in the 23rd minute when ALLISON met a Scott cross to
fire past Bejaoui and minutes later cut open the Cuikie defence again only to see Grant’s effort saved by Bejaoui. The big stopper had
been the busier of the two keepers in the opening half hour but saw his side draw level with 35 minutes gone as Somerville having seen
his shot blocked at the edge of the box chased the loose ball out wide left, skipped past his opponent and fired over a low cross to the
front post which was met by MCCALLUM who made no mistake from six yards out. Play went from end to end as both sides sought to
gain a half time advantage and although Ross and Lough for the visitors and Allison for the home side had efforts on goal the teams went
in at half time level, although Cuikie saw Barr limp off just before the whistle following a late tackle in midfield which went unpunished.

The Mariners regained the lead within a minute of the restart when David GRANT beat the visitors defence to a through ball and slotted
past Bejaoui. Penicuik were shaky as the home side hustled and harried them out of possession and Cunnison saw yellow for a
challenge just outside the box as once again Penicuik gave away good possession. With 56 minutes gone a McCallum free kick from 25
yards out sailed over the bar before Barr succumbed to the first half injury to be replaced by Devlin. Play became ragged with both sides
giving away possession but with 74 minutes on the clock it was the visitors who attacked and a Gay cross was met by a powerful
McCallum header which brought out the best in keeper Kane as he plucked the net bound header out the air. A minute later Devlin drove
from the middle of the park and his pass found Somerville one on one with Kane but the keeper smothered his effort at the second
attempt before Jancyzk drove into the Mariners box and saw his shot touched wide for a corner. In 79 minutes a Jancyzk free kick was
nodded down in the box by McCallum to Devlin whose scissor kick was brilliantly saved by Kane and the ensuing rebound was scrambled
away for a corner. Penicuik were pushing hard for an equaliser and from Jancyzk’s corner MCCALLUM rose to head home in the 80th
minute. The game became punctuated by stoppages as injuries to Fullarton for the Mariners and Cunnison for the Cuikie disrupted the
flow of the game and with 88 minutes on the clock Montgomery in space on the left volleyed over from 18 yards out and two minutes into
injury time Ure shot over for the home side. Despite five minutes of injury time neither side could find a winner and Penicuik remain
unbeaten away from home.
