In the 17th minute, only a last gasp intervention by Fraser prevented the opening goal for the visitors. However, the game was put to bed with three goals in a five minute spell. The first came in the 19th minute when a clearance by Fraser fell to McCONNACHIE who scored from the edge of the box. Two minutes later Broughty added a second when a cross into the box was tipped away by Bejaoui, but fell to BUCHAN who slotted home at the back post. Then a defence splitting pass by McConnachie set up BUCHAN and he stroked the ball past Bejaoui into the far bottom corner of the net. In the 28th minute Somerville combined with McCallum only to see McCallum’s overhead kick comfortably saved by Ross. On the half hour, relief for the Penicuik fans when a long clearance by Broughty picked out Buchan who outpaced Liddell only to be felled in the box by substitute Young, but the referee, after a long look at the stand side assistant waved play on. Penicuik were ineffective in attack and in the 41st minute almost lost a fourth goal when Smart’s glancing header off a corner kick flashed narrowly wide of the goal.   Half Time: Penicuik 0 Broughty 3 40 seconds into the second half, a fine move down the right saw substitute McCunnie send over an inch perfect cross for BUCHAN to head home his hat trick and Broughty’s fourth. Then in the 49th minute, a great reverse pass by Clark picked out Buchan, but this time Bejaoui pulled off a great one handed save to deny the striker. At the other end, a Penicuik corner was tipped over the bar by keeper Ross. Minutes later, Buchan again got the better of Liddell only to see his rasping shot well saved by Bejaoui. Penicuik broke quickly from defence and a Lister cross was headed wide by Somerville. In the 65th minute a strike by Sime was blocked on the line by Lister. One minute later, Penicuik substitute Barr cut across the penalty box, but shot just wide of the target. Shortly afterwards, a McCallum strike went a yard over the bar. Penicuik were having their best spell of the game and got a consolation goal in the 82nd minute. A surging run and cross by Devlin was headed down by McCallum to SOMERVILLE who steered the ball past Ross. Final Score: Penicuik 1 Broughty 4
