Penicuik shocked league leaders Bo’ness United with a goal in the 2nd minute when, following a corner kick, White headed the ball back
across goal and SOMERVILLE smashed the ball in off the crossbar. Minutes later, Ross picked out Somerville who got past keeper
Christie only to see his lob headed off the line. In the 6th minute, Bo’ness had a great chance when Walker was set free with only Bejaoui
to beat, but the keeper’s out stretched boot blocked his shot. Five minutes later, Lister was stretchered off after a crunching tackle by
McGregor and was replaced by Patterson. The visitors equalised in the 20th minute when Patterson lost possession and Walker was set
free, but again Bejaoui blocked his attempt on goal. However, DONNELLY was on hand to stroke home the rebound. In the 36th minute
neat work between Ross and Gay saw Gay cross the ball low and hard across the six yard box, but a last gasp tackle by Campbell save
the day for United. Minutes later Bo’ness had the ball in the back of the net but the referee had blown for a foul on Ross by Sloan. Just
before half time, Lough had a great chance but headed the ball straight into the arms of keeper Christie. Then Somerville was set up by
Lough, but dragged his strike wide of the target. Into injury time and a Sloan free kick whistled past the upright.
Half Time: Penicuik 1 Bo’ness 1
The opening ten minutes of the half saw Bo’ness pile on the pressure, but Penicuik’s defence held firm and gradually they worked their
way back into the game. In the 57th minute, a Jancyzk free kick was headed down by Somerville but there were no Penicuik players to
take advantage. Minutes later, a Montgomery cross was met by Lough, but his header was gathered by Christie as Somerville rushed in.
Then in the 63rd minute a fine move by Penicuik was thwarted by an excellent tackle on Lough by Campbell. The ball broke to
Montgomery on the left and his powerful left foot strike was tipped over the bar by Christie. Penicuik were not to be denied and in the
69th minute, Barr burst through the Bo’ness defence, crossed the ball low across the box and a stunning strike by MONTGOMERY
blasted the ball into the roof of the net. Three minutes later a ball from defence picked out Donnelly who turned both White and Cunnison
to drive in on goal. Keeper Bejaoui then pulled off the save of the game when he blocked Donnelly’s strike. Into injury time and a last
chance fell to the visitors, but a cross to the back post was headed straight to Bejaoui.
