Three minutes later, Jancyzk picked out Rennie with great diagonal pass, but he dragged his shot wide of the post. In the 20th minute, Lister was felled by a bad tackle that went unpunished and Rennie was booked for dissent. Immediately afterwards, McCrum drove up the right wing and laid the ball off to O’Donnell, but his effort went high over the bar when he should have done better. In the 33rd minute, Ross crossed the ball low into the Lanark penalty area where McCallum held the ball up well and laid it back into the path of Lister. He struck first time but the keeper pulled off an excellent save low down to his right. Right on half time, McCrum was set up following a throw in, but his effort went well wide of the target. The first half had little to show in the way of entertainment for the crowd, but credit was due to the home side who worked their socks off closing down Penicuik at every opportunity and not allowing Cuikie to play their passing game. Half Time: Lanark 0 Penicuik 0 Within three minutes of the start of the half, the home side took the lead when a free kick was only partially cleared and O’DONNELL volleyed past Bejaoui. In the 53rd minute, Bejaoui came to Penicuik’s rescue with a superb double save to deny Falconer. In the 60th minute, substitute McPartlin set Ross free on the right, but keeper Mailey smothered his shot at the near post. Five minutes later, a long kick out by Bejaoui caught out the Lanark defence. Weir cut the ball back across the six yard box where McPartlin was racing in to knock the ball home, but keeper Mailey was alert to the danger and cut out the cross. Since McPartlin came on the whole context of the game had changed in favour of Penicuik. As well as being a driving force in midfield, he was also a threat up front and in the 70th minute he saw his shot well saved by the keeper. One minute later, McPartlin picked up a long ball from defence, lobbed the advancing keeper only to see the ball come back off the post and cleared. In their next attack, McPartlin crossed the ball into the box where McCallum got a toe to the ball and Ross pounced but saw his shot crash back off the base of the upright. With the pressure building on the home side, Penicuik won a corner in the 85th minute. Gay curled the ball to the back post where the keeper misjudged the flight of the ball and McCALLUM headed home. Four minutes later, Penicuik took the lead when a Jancyzk free kick was headed home by MEIKLE. Then right on full time, McPartlin’s defence splitting pass picked out KILLIN who blasted the ball into the net to seal the tie. Final Score: Lanark 1 Penicuik 3
