Penicuik were the visitors to Gibbshill Park for a 2nd round DFT
Fife & Lothians Cup tie against a Harthill Royal side who seemed
to have put their early season problems aside and were unlucky
losers to Darvel in the Junior Cup the previous week.
Killin had an early chance for Penicuik as he shot across goal and
past the post from a good position before at the other end Meiklem
pounced on a Meikle error and was only thwarted by a good block
by Bejaoui. A free flowing move featuring Weir,McCallum and
McPartlin down the left the home side finished with McCallum
firing over from 20 yards. With six minutes gone a ricochet into
Killin’s path from a McDermott pass hit the post. With 15 minutes
gone Killin set up Lister as he raced into the box but he failed to
make clean contact and Roberts gathered. Eight minutes later
Jancyzk was disposed inside his own half and saw Marshall go
clear through on Bejaoui who parried and then gathered the shot
on goal. A Jancyzk free kick then found Weir in space in the box
and his effort was well saved by Roberts and minutes later Weir
saw yellow for ‘simulation’. With ten minutes of the half remaining
a foul on Lister saw Weir’s free kick from 20 yards find the side
netting with the keeper beaten. At the other end Young was
penalised by referee Lindsay and Connelly’s free kick from 30
yards out was parried over the bar by Bejaoui.

The second half started with the visitors in the ascendency and McPartlin’s cross found Weir at the far post and his first time effort
was saved by Roberts but he blasted the rebound over the bar. McCALLUM opened the scoring in 51 minutes as he tapped
home at the second attempt from a McDermott cross after the influential Jancyzk had released him with a quick free kick from the
middle of the park. With just over an hour gone a good interchange between McCallum and McPartlin set up Killin but he fired
over from 16 yards out. KILLIN got on the score sheet in 66 minutes as raced onto a McCallum through ball and slotted past
Roberts from 15 yards to make it 2-0. The near summer weather had given way to a torrential downpour and both sides made
substitutions to try and influence the remaining 20 minutes, but it was the visitors who closed the game out, despite a spirited
finish from the hosts, when substitute McCULLOCH latched onto a miskick in the six yard box to finish from close range with 12
minutes remaining after McPartlin and Rennie had exchanged passes.
