Penicuik: Hill, Ross, Bunyan, White, Young, Lister, Patterson, Burrell, McCallum, Jancyzk, Killin. Subs: McCulloch, Gay, Trialist. Referee – Mr Duncan Williams Assistant Referees – Dougie Kerr & Donnie McKinnon Penicuik visited Parkview to meet Fauldhouse and were met by an empty ‘Coo Shed’ as the home support took advantage of the brilliant blue sky and basked in the April sunshine! Penicuik had an early chance as Patterson fed McCallum but his shot was saved by Murphy in the home goal. With ten minutes gone the visitors had a strong penalty claim for handball turned down after excellent play by Jancyzk gave McCallum a scoring opportunity but his net bound shot appeared to strike a defender on the arm on the goal line but referee Williams turned down the claims. The home raced to the other end and Donnelly’s shot from the edge of the box dipped as it went over the crossbar. It was the hosts who took the lead on 21 minutes as Brian ROSS capitalised on a Lister error to take possession 40 yards put and race in on goal, round Hill and slot the ball into the net. The home side started to gain the upper hand after the goal and a Rees free kick from 35 yards was easily held by Hill. With 25 minutes gone McQuillan latched onto a loose ball and raced in on goal but his effort was well blocked by Hill at the expense of a corner. From the corner the ball was swung in across the face of the goal and went out for a goal kick but the goal posts were knocked from their fixing points by the onrushing Fauldhouse player and a delay ensued as the posts were fixed. The home side had the ball in the net again on 35 minutes but referee Williams blew for an infringement on keeper Hill and six minutes later it was the visitors turn to have an attempt on goal as McCallum’s shot on the turn was well saved by Murphy. Half Time – Fauldhouse 1 Penicuik 0 The second half started with the home side looking to press home their advantage with Penicuik giving away possession cheaply and giving away needless free kicks.  Five minutes into the half Young received the first of his yellow cards for a poor challenge, before a McCulloch knock down from a corner was saved by Murphy at the feet of McCallum. With 55 minutes gone Cuikie appeared to have gained a foothold and after a corner was cleared to the edge of the box a Ross shot went narrowly over the bar. However on the hour Young stopped a surging Smith run on the edge of his own box and received a second yellow and the visitors were reduced to ten men, although the resultant free kick came to nothing. The home sides’ advantage was doubled with 65 minutes gone when DONNELLY ran unchallenged from midway in his own half before firing past Hill’s despairing dive from 30 yards.  Three minutes later Brian Ross missed a golden chance to make it three when he fired over with the goal gaping.  Penicuik attempted to up the tempo in an effort to get back in the game and on 70 minutes Jancyzk latched onto a loose ball 25 yards out but fired well wide of the target and five minutes later Ross fired wide of the upright from a Bunyan cross. Patterson then broke down the right and cut inside but his shot was easily held by Murphy and Ross got the end of a McCallum knock down and saw his shot deflected wide for a corner as the visitors enjoyed their best spell of the game. With three minutes left White fired a header wide and the home side safely saw the game out and earned the three points as they as good as made themselves save from relegation.
