Penicuik started brightly and with five minutes gone a long Young pass found Ross in space behind the home defence but Ferrie raced from his line to block his effort. Ross had another effort five minutes later as met a defensive header inside the box but he volleyed wide of the upright. From the goal kick Carnoustie went to the other end and Black fired over from 30 yards out. The game developed into a midfield struggle with little activity in any attacking sense but almost came to life with 26 minutes gone when Gay, as he broke forward from the midfield, was cynically fouled by Black, who received a yellow card for his troubles. The home side had a chance two minutes later but Black’s flick into the box was seen out over the goal line by Young but it was the visitors who were starting to press and a slick move between Ross, McCallum and Cunnison, petered out without troubling Ferrie in the home goal.Half Time – Carnoustie 0 Penicuik 0The second half opened with Patterson replacing Jancyzk in the visitors line up but it was the home side who opened brightly with Scott prominent down the right. He saw a cross held comfortably by Bejaoui, before the Penicuik defence failed to clear a bouncing ball in the box and he headed wide with the goal gaping. With an hour on the clock Panmure’s Simpson broke clear but Ross was on hand to block his shot and then Black drifted into space 20 yards out and his shot on the turn was saved by Bejaoui and turned behind by Cunnison for a corner. With 64 minutes on the clock Scott again broke down the right, beating several challenges but his shot across goal went wide. It was the visitors turn two minutes later to scorn a chance as the ball fell to White in the home box but his shot failed to hit the target. Patterson had a great chance to break the deadlock in the 70th minute as he broke the offside trap but his touch was heavy and took him wide of the advancing Ferrie and the chance went a begging. Four minutes later an exchange of passes set up Killin but his shot was deflected wide for a corner before Ross had as good chance but shot straight at Ferrie. With seven minutes of normal time remaining left McCallum’s shot from 25 yards out was deflected for a corner. The home side then had a spell of pressure as they pushed for valuable points with substitute McIllravey prominent down the right, but resolute Penicuik defending kept them at bay with Bejaoui rarely called into action. With everyone looking at their watches awaiting the full time whistle, Gay whipped in a free kick, in the 94th minute, from out on the right and McCALLUM rose to head past Ferrie to give the visitors all three points.Full Time – Carnoustie Panmure 0 Penicuik Athletic 1
