Penicuik threatened in the 8th minute when Killin had a chance, but the ball was nipped off his toe for a corner kick. From the
corner the ball fell to Millar inside the six yard box but he was ruled offside. In the 17th minute a Ballingry free kick picked out
Meikle, but he scooped the ball well wide of the target. Ten minutes later, following a throw in on the left to Ballingry, Bryce saw
his effort sail over the bar. A McDermott corner kick caused consternation in the Ballingry defence, but the ball was eventually
cleared for another corner that Ballingry dealt with comfortably. In the 39th minute, with Penicuik looking the better side, a curling
cross appeared to be handled in the box and then as the ball broke to Killin he was pushed in the back but referee Kilgour waved
play on. One minute later, Penicuik lost possession in midfield, Bryce raced down the left wing, cut the ball across for
FOTHERINGHAM to tap home from inside the six yard box. Just on half time a McCallum strike was deflected over the crossbar
by keeper Young.
Half Time: Ballingry 1 Penicuik 0
Penicuik started the second half in a determined fashion and a Millar shot was deflected over the bar by a last gasp tackle. Then
an excellent driving run by Bratchie saw him go for goal, but his strike was turned round the post by Bejaoui for a corner kick. At
the other end, a great run and cross by Ross was met by McCallum, but the ball was headed off the line and cleared. In their next
attack, Ross again tested the home defence with a dangerous cross to the back post, but fortunately for Ballingry no Penicuik
player was able to take advantage. In the 60th minute, Killin tested keeper Young who needed two attempts to gather the ball.
Minutes later, Penicuik substitute Rennie, after a great run from his own half, fluffed his shot at the vital moment. Then Bratchie
tried a curling right foot shot that went a foot wide of the Penicuik post. Ballingry’s Fleming was lucky to stay on the park after a
lunging, two footed, studs up tackle on Meikle was only punished with a yellow card. Minutes later, McDermott, harshly received a
straight red card for a foul that was less serious than that committed by Fleming earlier. In the 73rd minute, Bratchie played a
great diagonal ball out to the right wing, but the resulting strike went well wide of the goal. Despite being down to ten men,
Penicuik were still looking dangerous and earned a free kick when McCallum was chopped down. Ross beat the defensive wall,
but keeper Young was well placed to save. In the 83rd minute, Bejaoui saved a strike by substitute Bateson at the second
attempt. Penicuik continued to press, but just could not get the equaliser that their play deserved.
Final Score: Ballingry1 Penicuik 0
