Penicuik played the last of the pre-season friendlies against Auchinleck Talbot with memories of the last encounter when
the Cuikie lost 7-1. Once again Penicuik were short of players with six out injured and one on holiday with only two subs.
Despite this, Penicuik matched the home side throughout the first half. Talbot had the ball in the back of the net in the 21st
minute when Penicuik were caught with a quickly taken free kic, but the goal was ruled offside. Shortly afterwards, Talbot
had a chance but their glancing header hit the side netting. Minutes later, Talbot keeper fumbled the ball and Montgomery
chipped the ball for goal, but the Talbot defence covered well. Just before half time, a Talbot free kick went narrowly past
the upright.
Half Time Auchinleck 0 Penicuik 0
Into the second half and a long clearance from defence saw Montgomey’s cross beat keeper Leishman and hit the top of
the crossbar. However, soon afterwards, with Talbot upping the pace of the game they were awarded a soft penalty in the
64th minute, competently despatched by David Gormley. Two minutes later the Gormley dived in to head home an
excellent cross from the right wing. In the 85th minute, Bejaoui, at full stretch, pulled off an excellent one handed save.
Auchinleck saw out the remainder of the game to earn a comfortable win.
