Penicuik started the game at a high pace and were awarded a free kick in the fifth minute that
caused consternation in the Livingston defence, but eventually the ball was booted clear. In their
next attack down the left, Lister sent over a tantalising cross that keeper Dolan was glad to see go
narrowly past his left hand post. Livingston's first real attack came in the 19th minute, when a first
time cross from the left wing was well defended by Penicuik who then broke quickly from defence,
but McCallum's cross into the box was headed straight at keeper Dolan. Minutes later, a Barr strike
was saved by Dolan. Then at the other end, with Penicuik claiming for a free kick, a Murphy strike
hit the bar and went over for a goal kick. In the 28th minute a fierce McPartlin strike brought out a
great save by Dolan turning the ball round the post. Then a driving run by McPartlin had the
Livingston defence on the back foot. He laid the ball back to Ross who saw his shot brilliantly saved
by Dolan. In the 40th minute a curling Gay free kick finally beat Dolan all ends up but the ball
crashed back of the junction of the bar and post.
Half Time: Livingston 0 Penicuik 0
One minute into the half and a Gay cross was headed netbound by Killin, but once again Dolan
came to the rescue at full stretch low down to his right to get a fingertip to the ball and stop it
crossing the line. In the 58th minute, with Livingston having their best spell of the game, Bejaoui
was well placed to save a Murphy volley. In the 79th minute, Livingston were awarded a penalty
kick when Forbes was tripped in the box. BURNS blasted the spot kick into the top left hand corner
of the net, giving Bejaoui no chance. That goal lit a fuse under Penicuik and within a minute they
were level. A corner to Penicuik was cleared to the edge of the box, headed back in and
McCALLUM turned to volley the ball home. Two minutes later, a flowing move by Penicuik started
when they won the ball in midfield, Barr passed to McCallum who set up GAY who slotted the ball
into the back of the net. Livingston had no sooner kicked off again when they were hit by the killer
blow. McCallum laid the ball off to substitute Knight who returned the favour and McCALLUM
slotted the ball under Dolan for his fourteenth goal of the season. It took a long time for Penicuik to
get the win that their play deserved and great credit must go to Livingston' s outstanding defence
with keeper Dolan in top form.
