Kirriemuir were quick out the starting blocks and applied immediate pressure on the home side, and in the 6th  minute were unlucky when Lunan’s header at the back post crashed back off the crossbar.  However the visitors were not to be denied and a fine solo effort by SIEVWRIGHT put Kirrie deservedly ahead. They doubled their lead in the 16th minute when Penicuik failed to cut out another cross into the middle of the box where MILLAR  headed home. In the 20th minute, following a throw in to Penicuik, McCallum controlled the ball on his chest, turned sharply, but saw his left foot volley flash inches wide of the post with keeper Tough looking on anxiously. Then at the other end, a long rage Kirrie strike went just wide of the target. On the half hour, Penicuik pulled one back when a Kerr cross was partially cleared to the edge of the box where McDERMOTT struck an unstoppable volley into the Kirriemuir net. Just before half time, another Kerr cross was met by McCallum who attempted an overhead kick, but his effort went narrowly wide of the goal. Half Time: Penicuik 1 Kirriemuir 2 In the 51st minute, Penicuik’s left flank was left totally exposed and the ball was fed out to J RUSSELL who had all the time in the world to pick his spot and effectively put the game to bed. Four minutes later, a Penicuik free kick was blocked and fell to McDermott, but on this occasion his strike for goal went past the upright. In the 65th  minute, a McDermott corner kick was headed off the line, and substitute Dickson’s shot went inches past keeper Tough’s right hand post. Two minutes later a Penicuik free kick fell to Cunnison whose first shot was blocked and he blasted the rebound over the bar from close range. Penicuik’s woes were compounded when Gay received a red card. In the 80th minute, a neat drive by substitute Knight across the edge of the Kirrie box saw his strike go a foot over the bar. At the other end, Millar beat the Penicuik defence only to see his shot rebound off the post straight into keeper Wilson’s arms. Kirriemuir continued to dominate the remainder of the game with a well organised and disciplined performance and ran out worthy winners of this opening McBookie East Premier League fixture.
