Both sides were evenly matched for the first fifteen minutes of the game and the first chance fell to
Penicuik when a McPartlin cross was first headed by McCallum and then Barr rose above the defence to
head home, but keeper Sorley pulled off a superb one handed save. Two minutes later, a Knight cross to
the back post was headed narrowly wide by Gay. In the 26th minute, McCallum latched on to a ball over
the Kinnoull defence only to see his shot scrape past the keeper's left hand post. Minutes later, a
dangerous Gay free kick saw McCallum stretch to get a toe to the ball, but his effort flashed inches wide
of the target. Shortly afterwards, Kinnoull's Norrie was booked for diving in the Penicuik penalty box.
However, just before half time, Kinnoull were awarded a penalty when Lister was adjudged to have fouled
McKinlay. Smith took the spot kick, but Bejaoui brought off a great save to deny the home side.

Penicuik started the second half in another gear and piled on constant pressure. In the 55th minute, a
slick move saw Knight get to the bye line, cut the ball back to Barr, who slipped it to his right from where
McCallum, under pressure, struck for goal. His shot beat keeper and defender, but went a foot wide of
the target. Four minutes later, Patterson was set free one on one with keeper Sorley. Patterson struck the
ball well, but Sorley pulled off another great one handed save. In the 63rd minute, Barr kept up the
pressure on the home defence, but Sorley got down well to save. Then a Gay cross from the right wing
saw McCallum's glancing header go inches wide of the upright. In Penicuik's next attack, a McCallum
strike flew wide of the junction of the post and crossbar. One minute later, a Knight strike came close. In
the 75th minute, a free kick to Kinnoull was headed a foot over the crossbar by Duigan. Penicuik's
frustration descended to indiscipline when McDermott was booked for dissent and one minute later
headed for an early bath after receiving a second caution. Minutes later, Gay received a red card,
reducing Penicuik to nine men. Despite this, the home side failed to capitalise on the two man advantage
and it was Penicuik who created further chances, but failed once again to convert them into goals.
