CUNNISON doubled the lead when he played a free kick short to Grant Killin who laid the ball back to him and he slotted the ball into the bottom corner of the net from 20 yards. Then another Cunnison free kick, this time driven in low was well controlled by McPartlin, but his strike swerved wide of the target. In their next attack, McDermott and Patterson combined well, but McDermott's left foot shot flashed past keeper Collier's left hand post.  In the 17th minute a Blackadder free kick was missed by everyone and turned away for a corner to the visitors, but the corner kick was easily dealt with by the Penicuik defence. Then in the 23rd minute, Cunnison was red carded for denying a goal scoring opportunity. Two minutes later a great pass by Blackadder picked out Scarborough who, when it seemed easier to score, shot wide of the upright from just outside the six yard box. In their next attack the same player was presented with a similar opportunity, but fluffed his shot and Bald saved comfortably. With the visitors piling on the pressure, the ten men Penicuik were defending solidly and in the 38th minute a quick break by Penicuik saw them awarded a free kick. Gay curled the ball round the wall and Collier did well to get down quickly to save. At the other end, Bald pulled off a magnificent one handed save to turn away a Blackadder free kick. Just before half time, a great ball out of defence by Bunyan found Patterson who beat his marker, but his effort on goal lacked power and Collier saved easily. Half Time: Penicuik 2 Oakley 1 The second half started with Oakley pushing Penicuik back into their own half passing the ball well, but failing in the final third where Penicuik's defence was resolute. Whenever they did get past the defence, Bald in goal was inspiring his defence with excellent saves and cutting out high balls into the box.  However, Penicuik always looked dangerous on the break and in the 56th minute, Gay was set free on the right and drove in on goal, but he miskicked his cross and it sailed high over the bar. The visitors continued to press with Blackadder orchestrating things in the middle of the park, but again they failed to cause the Penicuik defence any major problems. In the 69th minute, following a quick break from defence Oakley were happy to concede a corner kick. From the corner keeper Collier rose above everyone to gather the ball. At the other end, Oakley finally got round the back of the Penicuik defence, but Bald again saved as Callaghan tried to chip the ball over his head. Minutes later, Bald was again called into action when he pulled off a top drawer save to keep the visitors at bay. In the 85th minute, Penicuik were awarded a penalty when substitute Roxburgh rounded keeper Collier and was pulled down. Kerr took the spot kick but Collier guessed right and saved low down to his right and a chance to settle the game was lost. Oakley continued press, but their efforts were in vain as the Penicuik defence held firm and the three points were secured.
