Penicuik were looking to redeem themselves after last Saturday's awful performance against Livingston
United and without a shadow of a doubt did so, but must count themselves very unlucky not to get anything
out of the game. Right from the kick off they demonstrated the required commitment and attitude required to
put any team on the back foot, and in the 15th minute, a lovely ball over the top of the Bonnyrigg defence
picked out McPartlin who curled the ball into the six yard box, but keeper Carlin was alert to the danger and
cut out the cross. Two minutes later, a cross by Gay into the box was met by Patterson, but his glancing
header went wide of the goal. In their next attack Penicuik's Roxburgh showed real tenacity to win the ball
back after tackling defenders twice, but his strike on goal was comfortably saved by Carlin. Then a powerful
shot by Gay was desperately deflected away for a corner kick. Penicuik continued to press the opposition who
were unable to mount any hint of an attack, and in the 34th minute a long throw in by Kerr was headed on by
Montgomery to Patterson who tried an overhead kick and in a panic to clear, Roseburgh sliced the ball over
his own crossbar. From the corner, Kerr rose above the defence, but failed to direct the ball on target.
Seconds later, keeper Carlin had to rush from goal to the edge of the box to deny Roxburgh. The rebound fell
to Bonthrone, but his effort went narrowly wide of goal. In the 38th minute, a nice passing move by Penicuik
saw Roxburgh blast the ball high over the bar. The nearest Bonnyrigg came to scoring in the first half came off
a corner kick when Roseburgh's strike went a yard wide of the upright.
Half Time: Penicuik 0 Bonnyrigg 0
The opening ten minutes of the second half saw the visitors up the pace and apply some pressure on
Penicuik, but were unable to break down a resolute Penicuik defence. In the 57th minute, a bad tackle by
Bunyan on McPartlin earned him a yellow card. Three minutes later, Penicuik substitute, Millar, dispossessed
McLeish on his own goal line. Millar laid the ball off to Roxburgh who mishit his shot and it hit the side netting.
Immediately afterwards, another Roxburgh strike was partially blocked allowing keeper Carlin to gather safely.
In the 65th minute, a swift break from defence by Penicuik set Montgomery free on the left wing. He outpaced
his marker and crossed the ball into the six yard box where an excellent piece of defending stopped Millar
from knocking the ball home. From the resulting corner kick, Bonnyrigg broke quickly from defence, but a
brilliant piece of defending by McDermott cleared the danger. With the game swinging from end to end,
Roxburgh got past his marker and crossed the ball into the box where McPartlin was rushing in to score, but
an out stretched boot turned the ball away for another corner to Penicuik. From the corner, the ball fell to
Millar. He struck first time, but the ball hit the post and went past for a goal kick. In the 81st minute, Bonthrone
picked out McPartlin, but his powerful shot from a tight angle was beaten away by Carlin. Two minutes later,
the Penicuik defence blocked two strikes on goal, but the ball fell to McLEISH just outside the box and his pile
driver shot beat Haldane all ends up. Penicuik had a chance in the dying seconds of the game, but McPartlin
was denied by good defending and the visitors gratefully went back to Bonnyrigg with all three points.
