Straight from the kick off, Sauchie went on the attack, but it was Penicuik who showed them how it should be done
when, in the 2nd minute, Harvey cut the ball back to Gay. His 25 yard pile driver was destined for the top corner of
the net, but Halliwell pulled off a superb save to turn the ball over the bar. In the 9th minute, a quick break from
defence by Sauchie set up Comrie, but he dragged his strike wide of the target. Then three times in five minutes
Roxburgh was fouled from behind with no action taken by referee Jamieson. Then Donaldson had a chance, but
his effort went wide of goal. In the 14th minute, referee Jamieson was forced to produce his first yellow card when
Purdie brought down Barr from behind. In the 22nd minute, Halliwell came to Sauchie's rescue with another fine
save off Harvey. On the half hour, with Sauchie reduced to long range efforts, Morgan shot from 25 yards, but again
wide of the target. In the 35th minute, following a corner to Penicuik, Gay saw his header hit the crossbar and then
go out for a goal kick. Three minutes later, a long range effort by Bell came to nothing. Just before half time, a
strike by McPartlin brought out an excellent save by Halliwell.

The second half saw Sauchie with the bulk of the possession, but with no end product and Penicuik defending well
until the 66th minute when the home side were awarded an extremely dubious free kick. From the free kick, the ball
was headed back across goal where TULLY had the easiest of tasks to tap home from close range. In the 70th
minute, substitute Knight raced past Morgan and sent over a tantalising cross, but there were no takers for
Penicuik. Three minutes later, a swift attack down the right saw Brigain cut in only to see his strike crash back off
the crossbar with Halliwell beaten. Then in the 81st minute, a neat passing move between Smith and Gay ended
with a shot by Gay that was netbound, but a last gasp deflection saved the day for the Sauchie defence. Penicuik
continued to press the home defence and created another two chances, but luck was not on their side and the
home side held on to take all three points.
