Penicuik secured an important win against title challengers Oakley United with an excellent performance that saw them leap frog
the visitors to joint top spot in the East Premier League.
The first threat on goal came in the 5th minute when Oakley were awarded a dubious free kick that curled over the defensive
wall, but went just wide of the goal. Seven minutes later, a clearance by Bald was headed on by Brigain to Roxburgh who shot for
goal, but his effort was easily saved by Sandison. In the 14th minute, the same player got on to the end of a Cunnison cross, but
again Sandison was well placed to save. From his clearance, Blackadder broke up the wing, cut in on goal but his strike was
comfortably saved by Bald. In Penicuik's next attack, Barr held the ball up well, turned, only to see his shot partially blocked
allowing Sandison an easy save. Then McPartlin came close with a shot that went narrowly past the upright. At the other end a
Blackadder header was brilliantly tipped round the post by Bald. In the 20th minute, a McDermott corner kick was headed back
across goal by Reid. Roxburgh hooked the ball goalwards, but Sandison blocked the shot, and in a goalmouth scramble, SMITH
poked the ball home from close range. Seven minutes later, a miskick by the Penicuik defence allowed Oakley in on goal and an
excellent strike brought out the best in Bald who pulled off an equally excellent save and the danger was cleared. From the
clearance, Smith outpaced his marker, cut the ball back, but a last gasp block denied Roxburgh a strike on goal. Then in the 34th
minute, Roxburgh battled his past three defenders and found McPartlin with his pass. McPartlin laid the ball back into the path of
BARR whose thunderous strike hit the back of the net before Sandison could do anything about it.

In the 52nd minute, Oakley attacked up the left and a cross to the back post was blocked by McDermott and the whistle blew.
Everyone thought a penalty had been awarded, but the assistant referee on the right touchline had flagged for offside. Oakley
were starting to build pressure on the home side and Bald again pulled off a top drawer save. From the clearance, Roxburgh,
who had been a thorn in the visitor's side all day, rounded his marker only to see his shot go inches past the post. In the 67th
minute, a flowing move down the left by Oakley culminated with a strike on goal that flashed inches past keeper Bald's left hand
post. Penicuik thought they had put the game to bed when Roxburgh beat his man and slotted the ball into the net only for the
goal to be chopped off for offside. Shortly afterwards, a McDermott corner kick was headed powerfully by Meikle at the back post
but keeper Sandison dived low down to his right to save. In the 75th minute, Roxburgh picked the ball up on the wing, cut inside
between two defenders, and appeared to have been brought down, but nothing was given. The ball was then laid back to Barr
who tried to curl his shot into the top corner, but his effort went over the crossbar. Four minutes later, Blackadder, who controlled
the Oakley midfield, passed the ball to his left, but the strike on goal was comfortable saved by Bald. Oakley started to show
signs of frustration conceding several free kicks and picking up two bookings, but Penicuik failed to capitalise from them. With
minutes to go another free kick to Penicuik almost paid dividends, but Cunnison's strike went inches past the post. Then in the
92nd minute, Oakley almost scored, but a tremendous double save by Bald denied the visitors and kept a clean sheet for
Penicuik.
