Penicuik got off to a flying start with one of the quickest, if not the quickest goal this season. Straight from the kick off Mark
Smith got the ball on the right wing. His cross was partially cleared but DRAPER rushed in to head the loose ball into the
net in 35 seconds. In the 5th minute, Broxburn attacked up the right wing from where Martin crossed the ball into the
penalty box. Jeffery rose unchallenged, but his header went a foot wide of Bald's left hand post. Then at the other end
Smith beat two defenders and fired off a shot from thirty yards, but his effort flew over the crossbar. In the 9th minute, a
McDermott corner kick was headed narrowly over the bar by Cunnison. One minute later, a low cross by McDermott was
met first time by Draper, but his strike went straight to Holliday in goal. Minutes later, the visitors attacked up the right and
Martin's header went inches wide of the target. On the half hour, Penicuik doubled their lead when MEIKLE rose above the
Broxburn defence to head home a McDermott corner kick. Just before half time, Barr won possession in the midfield for
Penicuik, drove forward and shot for goal. Keeper Holliday seemed to go down early for the save, but deflected it away for
a corner kick.
Half Time: Penicuik 2 Broxburn 0
From the restart, Broxburn went on the attack and in the 52nd minute, Bald was brought into action to make his first
serious save of the game when he did well to deny Morrison. However, two minutes later Penicuik put the game to bed
when Roxburgh was up ended in the box and BARR competently despatched the spot kick. In the 62nd minute, a
Broxburn corner kick produced an excellent volley by Millar, but Bald pulled off an equally excellent save. Then a Broxburn
attack up the left saw Young cut inside and shoot for goal, but again Bald was up to the task and dived low down to his
right to save. Broxburn were passing the ball well, but when it came to the final third of the pitch they could make no
impression on a solid Penicuik defence. In the 76th minute, the final nail was driven into the Broxburn coffin when
Kaszlinski was red carded for a really bad tackle. Ten minutes later, with Penicuik piling on the pressure, Knight and
Roxburgh closed in on Cairns in his own penalty box where ROXBURGH nipped the ball from him and slotted home the
fourth goal for the home side. Two minutes into injury time, for the first time in the game, the home defence was caught
out, but Bald came to the rescue with a great one handed save to keep a clean sheet for Penicuik.
