Promotion chasing Broxburn faced an in form Penicuik Athletic in this
East Premier League tie, and it was the visitors who had the first
chance but Bald was well placed to save a Morrison free kick in the
opening minutes. Penicuik created their first chance in the 8th minute,
but Killin’s strike was dragged past the far post. Four minutes later, McKay headed a Penicuik free kick straight into
the arms of keeper Maley. At the other end, a weak back header was pounced upon by Shields, but Bald got his
finger tips to the ball to deflect it past the post.. From the corner kick, Bald pulled off another good save to deny the
visitors. Penicuik took the lead in the 14th minute when MILLAR nipped in ahead of Maley to bullet home a header
off a McDermott corner kick. Then in the 22nd minute a mix up between McKay and Meikle allowed Young to break
free, but his hard low cross was well defended by McDermott for a corner. Minutes later, Bald came to Penicuik’s
rescue with another finger tip save that saw the ball roll along the crossbar and cleared. In the 38th minute, a
McDermott free kick deceived everyone, but crashed back off the bar and was thumped clear.. Broxburn got back on

the net.
Half Time: Penicuik 1 Broxburn 1
Broxburn were first to threaten fourteen minutes into the second half, but again Bald saved a well struck free kick.
Penicuik restored their lead three minutes later when a delightful Barr pass set HARVEY free. He lobbed the
advancing keeper - no mean feat when you consider keeper Maley is about 6’ 7”. In the 66th minute, Millar had a
chance, but his strike was comfortably saved by Maley. Then in their next attack, Broxburn had the ball in the net. A
strike on goal was superbly block by Bald and the rebound was slotted home, but unfortunately for Broxburn, the goal
was correctly ruled offside. In the 75th minute, Penicuik should have wrapped up the points when Millar’s strike was
blocked by Maley’s outstretched boot and the rebound fell to Harvey who again tried to lob the keeper, but Maley
came off best on this occasion. With ten minutes to go, a hopefull 30 yard strike by Broxburn’s Young flew high and
wide of the target. Then, in the 89th minute, There were loud shouts for a Penicuik penalty when keeper Maley
literally blitzed Millar in the penalty box, but only a corner was awarded. Into injury time and a powerful driving run
through the middle of the park by Broxburn saw Martin set free, but Meikle came across to put in a great tackle to
clear the danger.
