The game was only twenty seconds old when Penicuik took the lead after Opilka's pass across the
penalty box was intercepted by HARVEY who promptly slammed the ball past Rachowski. In the 6
th minute, Penicuik had a chance to double their lead when Hay broke through the midfield. Had he
laid the pass off to his left Killin would have slotted home, be opted to shoot and dragged his effort
wide of the post. At the other end Foster was well held off by Hay, allowing Bald to come out and
gather. Immediately afterwards, a great diagonal pass by Gay picked out Harvey, however his first
time volley went high and wide of the goal. In the 20 th minute with Penicuik piling on the pressure,
Harvey wriggled past three defenders on the by line but was dispossessed at the last second. Six
minutes later, a neat one two between Hay and Montgomery saw Hay's cross desperately cleared.
On the half hour a break through the middle saw Harvey set up Gay, but he twice failed to get his
crosses into the danger area. Then Montgomery skipped past three defenders only to cross the ball
straight into Rachowski'd arms. Minutes later, Coult had a strike on goal but it was well covered by
Bald. In their next attack, Bald again saved from Coult who was showing strength and pace, causing
the Penicuik defence some anxious moments. In the 36 th minute a Gay free kick went narrowly
past the post. From the goal kick Morris tested Bald with a powerful strike that the keeper turned
round the post.
Half Time: Penicuik 1 Arniston 0
Five minutes into the half, and a pass from Gay set up Harvey, but his strike went wide of the
keeper's right hand post. Arniston equalised in the 58 th minute with a quick break from defence,
and amid claims for offside, NICHOLSON charged in on goal and slotted the ball past Bald. Arniston
took encouragement from the goal and moved up a gear. Their passing was quick and accurate but
they were unable to convert this into more goals. Penicuik gradually got control of the game again,
and in the 70th minute they a strong claim for a penalty when a cross was handled in the box.
However, referee Marini was unsighted and play carried on. The ball was partially cleared and
returned into the box where Robertson sliced his shot wide of the target. Three minutes later
Arniston took the lead when, in a quick break from defence, COULT out paced the Penicuik defence
to drive the ball under the diving Bald. In the 80 th minute Harvey was inches away from heading
home a Montgomery cross. Penicuik were again piling on the pressure, and keeper Rachowski had
to punch the ball clear under pressure. Five minutes later, Rachowski got down well to save a
Harvey header that was heading for the bottom corner of the net. Arniston probably merited the
three points simply because they took their chances when they arose, whereas Penicuik scorned a
number of opportunities to seal the game particularly in the first half
