Immediately afterwards, Killin created a chance, but blasted his shot high over the bar. In the 7th minute, Killin set up Barr who tried a shot from thirty yards, but his effort went straight to keeper Carlin. Penicuik finally took the lead in the 12th minute when a Gay free kick was only partially cleared by the Whitburn defence. McKay, surrounded by three Whitburn defenders cleverly laid the ball off to HARVEY who turned quickly and fired an unstoppable shot into the top corner of the net. In Penicuik’s next attack, a great diagonal pass by Brigain picked out Killin who drove the ball into the six yard box, where the ever alert Carlin got down to tip the ball away and the danger was cleared. In the 16th minute, Killin had the spectators holding their breath when he deflected a strike by Dickov that flashed inches past the upright for a corner. In the 21st minute, a mistake by Mooney allowed Harvey to set up Gay, but his strike flew high over the bar. Four minutes later a neat interchange between Harvey and Brigain set up Killin, but his attempted lob, although it beat the keeper, just dipped over the bar. Penicuik appeared to take their foot off the gas and Whitburn gradually fought their way back into the game and it was no surprise when they equalised in the 37th minute. Penicuik failed to clear their lines and MURPHY slotted home from the left side of the penalty box into the opposite bottom corner. In the 41st minute, Barr came close to restoring the lead for Penicuik when his strike went inches past the post with Carlin beaten. Half Time: Penicuik 1 Whitburn 1 In the opening thirty seconds of the half, Penicuik had keeper Clark to thank when he pulled off two successive saves to deny the visitors. In the 48th minute, following a throw in to Penicuik, Barr’s powerful strike on goal was blocked by keeper Carlin, but MILLAR pounced to slot the ball home from close range. Immediately afterwards, Penicuik created two more great chances, when Carlin saved a Barr shot and Millar dragged an effort wide of the post. In the 51st minute Brigain had a chance, but his strike was comfortably saved by Carlin. Then Millar was denied by Carlin who rushed from goal to smother the ball. Immediately afterwards, excellent control by Barr set Harvey free, but his chip over the keeper went narrowly past the post. In the 68th minute, Penicuik doubled their lead. A Barr pass picked out Harvey who crossed the ball to BRIGAIN who slammed the ball into the net from fifteen yards. In the 83rd minute, Walker held the ball up well before passing to HARVEY who looked up and curled a delightful shot round the keeper into the far cornet of the net. Two minutes later, a driving run by Harvey to the bye line saw him send over a low cross to the edge of the six yard box where WALKER rushing in, knocked the ball into the back of the net under keeper Carlin. Right on full time, a Whitburn attack saw a cross to the back post where Miller got his head to the ball, but his effort went inches wide of the target. Final Score: Penicuik 5 Whitburn 1
