Manager Stuart McKean

How would you sum up the season?

Its been a very pleasing season although very disappointing the way it has finished after getting ourselves in a great position for promotion. You only have to look at the points we dropped at home to see why we missed out on a top 2 finish.

Which performance pleased you most and why?

When we returned over the festive period we played Arniston who I rate very highly. Not only did we manage to win the game convincingly but our fitness levels and energy were so good that I think we could have beat most teams on the day.

What was the team’s worst performance and why?

There have been a few disappointing score lines over the season but most have been down to circumstances but the game that disappointed me the most was against Musselburgh at Olive Bank where we never showed up and in my opinion froze on the big match. I just felt the boys never showed what they are capable of on the day and let everyone down involved in the club on the night.

How have you enjoyed your first year as a manager?

I have enjoyed it immensely. You know there will be ups and downs in the season but I feel we have taken another step in the progression of the club in becoming a force in junior football again and hopefully go one better next season.

How difficult was it to adapt from player to manager status?

It's very difficult because one minute you are playing with your team mates and the next you are hoping to gain enough respect from the guys to help you make big decisions to take the club forward.

What was the most difficult change for you?

Very similar to the above as I now have to pick a team of 11 from a squad of 23 and I know all are capable of doing a job. However its never nice to tell someone they are not playing on a Saturday but I have always maintained if you are playing well enough you will retain your place in the starting line up.

With hindsight, is there anything you would have done differently?

Yes there certainly plenty of room for improvement but I wont say what that is as hopefully I will use it to improve our performance next season.

How do you feel about failing to get promotion after such a good start?

Obviously I am gutted as we gave ourselves a great chance but I suppose it gave me a good look at my squad to see where we need to improve in certain areas.

Why do you think we failed at the last hurdle in the league?

Some very poor decisions on the field cost us this season and led to us playing with less than 11 men in certain games. This helped in our own downfall and also missing a couple of key players didn’t help.

In these difficult economic times, how will you go about improving the squad?

I have already started my search for new players and will unfortunately have to sell a couple of players to finance deals but that is just football in general.

Finally, what thoughts do you have for next season?

Well I hope that if I bring the players in I want we will be better equipped than this season to go all the way in the league. I would also hope that we will compete better in the cup competitions.
