Camelon 1 Penicuik 1
(Penicuik won 4 - 3 Penalties)

In the opening minutes, Camelon created a couple of chances, but Meikle’s tackle foiled the first strike and then Livie tipped a shot over the bar. In the 8th minute, a well struck Camelon free kick flashed inches over the crossbar. Immediately afterwards a poor pass back was almost intercepted by McDonald, but keeper Hutchison rushed out to boot the ball away. Then in the 16th minute Penicuik created the best chance of the game, but Cole was denied by Hutchison who rushed out to block the striker’s shot on goal. In Penicuik’s next attack, a great diagonal pass picked out Montgomery, but his first time shot went straight into Hutchison’s arms.

However, Penicuik’s pressure finally paid off when, an excellent passing move from defence culminated with another diagonal pass by Gay that picked out MONTGOMERY who smashed his left foot volley past Hutchison. In the 23rd minute, another flowing move by Penicuik saw Hutchison at full stretch to save Barr’s strike on goal. Then Milne saw his slightly deflected shot parried away by Hutchison and thumped clear. In the 37th minute, a stunning break from defence saw Gay send in a pinpoint cross to Cole. His glancing header struck a defender and went inches past the right hand upright.

Half Time: Camelon 0 Penicuik 1

Three minutes into the second half and keeper Hutchison saved a long range strike by Barr at the second attempt. In the 50th minute a shot by Gay was deflected past the post for a corner to Penicuik.  Three minutes later Hutchison was again in action to pull off a great save and deny Barr. Camelon gradually started to exert some pressure as the half wore on but their final pass in the last third of the park let them down constantly. Camelon’s best move of the game came in the 75th minute when they cut through the resolute Penicuik defence and it looked like they were going to score, but Livie dived bravely at the feet of Bachelor to smother the ball. Five minutes later, with Livie beaten, a shot by Donnelly strike crashed back off the crossbar. The rebound fell to Batchelor, but his effort was blocked on the line and cleared.

In the 85th minute with Penicuik under pressure, a thirty yard strike by Camelon was deflected inches past Penicuik’s right hand post by one of their own players. Penicuik were coping with everything Camelon could throw at them until the 89th minute when a misunderstanding between Meikle and Livie caught the keeper flat footed and BATCHELOR nipped in to slot the ball into the far corner of the net. The game then went to a penalty shoot out. Killin hooked his penalty past the post and Livie saved Camelon’s first attempt. Penicuik then scored their next four penalties, and Livie was the hero when he brilliantly saved Camelon’s fifth spot kick to give Penicuik victory by four penalties to three and progress to the semi finals of the Cup.
