Penicuik 0 Dundee United 2

The opening minutes were evenly contested and the first opportunity fell to United when Myrie-Williams got past Kennedy only to tamely cross the ball into the arms of Bald. Then Penicuik came close when a Ryan Gay free kick curled inches wide of goal with keeper Hindlay looking on anxiously. The game continued with both sides cancelling out the other until the 30th minute when Kelly headed home a cross by Cole who had replaced the injured Coleman. However the far side assistant suprisingly ruled the goal offside.

Immediately afterwards, United’s Collins was fortunate to stay on the park after two bad fouls in a minute. Then Penicuik’s defensive wall did its job to block a United free kick from just outside the box. In the 36th minute, keeper Hindlay had to rush from goal to deny Kelly. Six minutes later, United’s danger man, Myrie-Williams saw his shot well saved by Bald at the second attempt.

Half Time: Penicuik 0 Dundee United 0

Eight minutes into the half, United attacked up the right wing and Andreoni saw his powerful shot crash back off the post and cleared. At the other end, a deep cross to the back post was headed back into the six yard box where Noon got his boot to the ball, but his strike flashed over the crossbar. In the 65th minute, a great pass from defence picked out Noon who got past two defenders, but his delicate chip to Robertson was intercepted by Smith at full stretch.

One minute later, another pinpoint pass from defence by Gibb picked out Gay who got in ahead of the last defender, but rushed his shot and dragging the ball wide of the upright. United took the lead in the 68th minute when a COLLINS free kick caught out Bald at his near post. Five minutes later, Penicuik were unlucky to see Hindlay pull off two great save to deny Noon and Robertson. In the 76th minute, a speculative cross by COLLINS deceived keeper Bald and went in off his far post. In the 80th minute, a Murray free kick was headed back across goal but then headed high over the bar. Shortly afterwards, Kelly had a great chance when he won the ball in midfield, drove in on goal, but his shot went wide of he target. A very good game to watch with Penicuik showing up well against the young stars of Dundee United.
