Manager Willie McGinley to step down

willie.jpg

Team manager Willie McGinlay has informed the club of his intention to stand down from his post at the end of the current season for personal reasons. His current assistant, Stuart McKean has been appointed to succeed him as manager. Penicuik Athletic would like to place on record their thanks and appreciation for the contribution Willie has made since the club re-started playing in 2002.

As Penicuik Webmaster, I would personally like to thank Willie for willingly subjecting himself to my after match interviews come win, draw or lose.

Cameron hat trick relegates Montrose Roselea

cameron_goal1.jpg
Martin Cameron heads home the opening goal

A marvellous Martin Cameron hat trick sealed victory and league safety for Penicuik, but the result saw Montrose Roselea relegated. Cameron opened the scoring in the the 18th minute and it stayed that way until half time. Calum Watson got the equaliser for Roselea when he slotted home a rebound off keeper Bald in the 56th minute.

The game swung from end to end with both teams looking for the vital winning goal. The all important goal came in the 85th minute when substitute Cole's tenacity saw him get in ahead of the keeper to flick the ball on to Cameron who had an easy task to slot the ball into the net. The icing on the cake came in the 89th minute when Cameron completed his hat trick with an unstoppable right foot drive.

The Penicuik Athletic fund raising Sportsman's Dinner was held in the Shottstown Miners Welfare Club on Friday 2nd May. Our thanks go to everyone who attended the dinner and gave their generous support to the Club.

How pleased were you with the performance today?

I was really pleased with the result because that was the main thing. I said to the team before the game that all we were asking for was for them to give 100% and overall, apart from a few things, they certainly gave us that today, so I was really pleased.

That win makes us safe, what are your thoughts now?

The main aim today was to get the 27 points and let everyone else fight out the relegation places. We are not happy with being on 27 points, we want to get 36 points, win our last three games and get some respectability in the middle of the table, which will be an improvement on last year.

What are your thoughts on stepping down next year?

I have mixed feelings – I’m not happy that I have to step down, however commitments, family and job wise, have to come first, but proud of what I have done and achieved up to now. So, mixed emotions, but I feel I am doing it for the right reasons and hopefully it will be the best for Penicuik Athletic.
