IAN MILLER FUNERAL The funeral of Ian Miller took place on Wednesday 25.11.20. Click on the link below to read A Farewell to Ian, by Richard McCready of The Co- Operative Party. CLICK HERE Ian, as well as being a long standing committee member, was a valued friend to everyone at the club. Ian joined the committee when the club was at a low ebb, being in abeyance after leaving Eastfield Park and played his part in getting the club back playing again in 2002. He was a well known face at the home games as he diligently went round the ground selling the half time raffle tickets. Ian also distributed the match day posters to shops and businesses throughout the town for many years and enjoyed the social interaction with every-one concerned. Ian followed the team all over the place, particularly when we were on our Premier League travels to Blairgowrie, Montrose, Kirriemuir etc. He enjoyed his Scottish Cup trips to Auchinleck, Dalmellington, Girvan and Lanark, to name a few. He enjoyed the craic with all his fellow supporters. He was a long term election agent for Midlothian councillor and former Provost, the late Adam Montgomery who was also a great supporter of the club. Ian was also a founding member of a cause close to his heart, Fairtrade Midlothian and also represented Midlothian Council on the Prison Visiting committee. He was very active politically, supporting Scottish Labour and was always to be found standing outside the polling station on election days. Indeed, he was current Vice Chair of Scottish Labour. Although not seeking the limelight, he had stood for election himself in 2010 and 2011 but was unsuccessful in both Westminster and Holyrood elections. It did not diminish his contribution moving forward. The Co-operative movement was probably the most important of Ian’s passions and he represented the movement in various roles and committees over the years. He is well remembered in Penicuik as the manager of the local branch of Scotmid for over fifteen years. Ian liked his football and if both Penicuik and Glasgow Rangers had won on a Saturday, he was well pleased. He much enjoyed his occasional visit to Ibrox. Ian will be missed as a friend and a stalwart of Penicuik Athletic. The club would like to offer it’s sympathies to Ian’s family and large circle of friends who are mourning his loss.
