Penicuik
started
brightly
with
three
early
corner
kicks
none
of
which
came
to
fruition.
Sauchie
showed
great
determination,
working
hard
to
close
Penicuik
down
and
not
allow
them
any
breathing
space.
In
the
12th
minute
White
headed
over
a
Dolan
cross.
At
the
other
end
a
Ponton
strike
was
blocked
and
cleared.
In
the
28th
minute,
an
error
by
the
Penicuik
defence
allowed
Langton
to
get
over
a
cross,
but
Dolan
failed
to
hit
the
target.
Four
minutes
later,
a
long
ball
by
Sauchie
found
Langton
who
tried
to
lob
Watt
but
the
keeper
was
alert
to
the
danger
and
saved
comfortably.
In
the
35th
minute,
Ponton
set
up
Stewart
but
keeper
Dolan
did
enough
to
turn
the
ball
away
for
a
corner.
Two
minutes
later,
Sauchie
took
a
deserved
lead
when
WRIGHT
rose
above
the
Penicuik
defence
to
head
home
a
corner
kick.
Just
before
half
time,
a Watson pile driver was tipped over the bar by keeper Dolan.
Half Time: Sauchie 1 Penicuik 0
Four
minutes
into
the
half
and
Stevenson
sent
over
a
low
cross
into
the
box
where
Watson’s
diving
header
was
cleared.
Then
a
Stevenson
curled
the
ball
to
the
top
corner
of
the
net
but
Dolan
pulled
off
a
great
fingertip
save.
One
minute
later,
Jones
set
up
STEWART
who
drove
into
the
box
and
drilled
the
ball
into
the
far
corner
of
the
net
for
the
equaliser.
Penicuik
had
really
upped
the
tempo
of
their
game
and
were
starting
to
dominate
the
game.
In
the
63rd
minute,
a
superb
passing
move
by
Penicuik
saw
substitute
Tansey’s
strike
blocked
and
cleared.
Penicuik’s
pressure
finally
told
when
in
the
69th
minute
a
short
corner
to
Stevenson
saw
him
cross
to
Page
at
the
far
post,
and
his
header
back
across
goal
was
nodded
in
by
Andy
FORBES.
Four
minutes
later,
the
game
should
have
been
put
to
bed
when
Penicuik
were
awarded
a
penalty
after
Stewart
was
tripped
in
the
box,
but
Stevenson’s
spot
kick
hit
the
bar.
Then
in
the
83rd
minute
Connolly’s
clever
pass
over
the
top
of
the
Sauchie
defence
picked
out
Stewart.
He
rounded
the
keeper
but
Dolan
recovered
well
to
steal
the
ball
from
Stewart’s
feet.
Into
injury
time
and
keeper
Dolan,
who
earned
the
man
of
the
match
for
Sauchie,
did
exceptionally
well to deny Stewart.
Final Score: Sauchie 1 Penicuik 2
