Penicuik 3 Sauchie 1 Penicuik: Cordery, Forbes (c), Baptie, Young, Williams, Connolly, McCrory-Irving, Jones, McIntosh, Somerville,  Ponton Subs: Barr, Salazar (T), Sampson, Jamieson, Hume Sauchie: Dolan, McKeown, Findlayson, Cross, Houston, Gunn, Millar, White, Cummings, Petrie,  Wells Subs: Carroll, Ogilvie, Bruce, Cairney Penicuik started the game brightly looking sharp and playing some excellent passing and possession football and in the 6th minute, Somerville created a chance for himself, but his effort went inches wide the the keeper’s left hand post. However, it was no surprise when Penicuik took the lead in the 14th minute. SOMERVILLE pealed off his marker to meet a Baptie corner kick and his glancing header at the front post flashed into the opposition net. Ten minutes later, a clever pass inside the full back by Ponton set McIntosh free but he delayed too long and the danger was cleared. In the 33rd minute, a defence splitting diagonal pass by McKeown picked out Cummings and he powered a great header past Cordery into the net but was ruled offside by the stand side assistant. From the free kick, Cordery launched the ball upfield and McIntosh got past his marker to cross the ball into the six yard box where SOMERVILLE headed home to double the Penicuik lead. In Penicuik’s next attack, a sweeping passing move set up Somerville for his hat-trick but his shot flew over the crossbar. Just before half time a slick interchange between Baptie, Ponton and McIntosh saw keeper Dolan pull off a great save to deny McIntosh. Half Time: Penicuik 2 Sauchie 0 It took only one minute for Penicuik to exert their authority on the game when Baptie broke down the left wing and curl over a low cross for SOMERVILLE to slam the ball home for his hat-trick. In the 53rd minute, a misplaced pass by Penicuik set Millar free with only the goal keeper to beat, but Cordery spread himself well to block the shot on goal. Two minutes later, McIntosh and Jones combined well to set up Jones, but keeper Dolan came to the rescue for Sauchie with an excellent save. Then a great run up the left wing by Ponton saw his cross into the box pick out McIntosh, but keeper Dolan again denied the striker with an instinctive save. At the other end, Sauchie came close when Millar’s overhead kick went just wide of the target. Penicuik seemed to take the foot off the gas and Sauchie worked their way back into the game and in the 69th minute, a Petrie free kick was met by HOUSTON who powered his header past Cordery. Shortly afterwards another Petrie free kick saw a first time volley fly over the crossbar. In the 83rd minute, Barr came close for Penicuik only to see his strike flash six inches wide of the base of the post. Final Score: Penicuik 3 Sauchie 1
