Peebles started the game strongly closing down Penicuik and giving them no space to play their normal game. The home side were first to every ball and opened the scoring in the 12th minute when, following a corner kick LAMB side footed the ball home. At the other end, a Somerville cross saw McIntosh’s strike blocked for a corner. Then a McIntosh came close with a header that landed on top of the goal net. Minutes later, Somerville set up McIntosh but his snap shot hit the post and went past for a goal kick. In the 27th minute, Peebles doubled their lead when LINDSAY curled the ball past everyone into the far corner of the net. In their next attack Peebles were denied by Cordery with an instinctive save blocking a header with his feet for a corner. On the half hour, Penicuik began to exert pressure on the home defence and Jones came close with a shot that went narrowly wide of the post. Penicuik then scored two goes in three minutes. The first came in the 40th minute, when McIntosh set up SOMERVILLE who slotted home from close range. Three minutes later JONES opened his tally for the season when he drilled home a Baptie cross. Half Time: Peebles 2 Penicuik 2 Minutes into the second half and Somerville saw his strike glance off the upright and away for a goal kick. In the 52nd minute, a curling Baptie corner kick almost caught out keeper Kerr, but ball hit the top of the crossbar. Penicuik were now dominating the game, but the final ball into the box was letting them down. In the 75th minute, Penicuik took the lead when a glancing header off a corner kick by McINTOSH beat keeper Kerr. Five minutes later, Forrest failed to cut out a Caddow through ball and McINTOSH took full advantage to cleverly lob the ball over Kerr as he rushed from goal. Immediately afterwards, a Baptie cross picked out Somerville in the box, but his header went straight to the keeper. It was all constant pressure by Penicuik and from a corner kick, a Cuikie header was cleared off the line for another corner. In the 86th minute, a Jones shot was blocked inside the box but fell to BARR who coolly curled the ball into the far corner of the net. Right on 90 minutes Penicuik’s sixth goal was a beauty. Baptie broke down the left, looked up and crossed the ball to SALAZAR who’s first time volley fairly fizzed into the net giving keeper Kerr no chance. A comfortable win for Penicuik in the end but they will have to combat losing early goals. Final score: Peebles 2 Penicuik 6
