After getting over the shock of the early goal, Penicuik got into their stride and in the 7th minute a long range strike by Baptie went narrowly over the bar. Minutes later, a testing cross into the box by McIntosh saw two Penicuik players go for the ball but a lack of communication saw the ball headed harmlessly away. In the 17th minute, McIntosh was denied by keeper Henderson who turned his header away to safety. On the half hour a strike by Hynd was saved at the second attempt by Cordery. In the 36th minute, another Baptie cross found Somerville but he couldn’t direct his header on target. Right on half time, a poor defensive header by Nutt fell to Somerville, but his first time volley was way wide of the target. Half time: Penicuik 0 Crossgates 1 It only took nine minutes for Penicuik to get on level terms. Penicuik were awarded a corner kick, hotly disputed by the visitors, and Baptie curled the ball to the front post where SOMERVILLE slipped his marker and glanced a header in off the crossbar. Two minutes later, Forbes broke up the right and curled the ball into the box where Sampson just failed to connect with an overhead kick. Then an attack down the left wing by Crossgates saw a long range strike beat Cordery but much to the relief of the home fans the ball cannoned back off the base of the post. In the 79th minute, a Penicuik free kick taken by Baptie fooled everyone but the ball hit the post and went out for a goal kick. Minutes later, a Connolly shot was comfortably saved by Henderson. In the 86th minute, a strike by substitute McCrory-Irving took a deflection but Henderson was alert to the danger and saved comfortably. Final Sore: Penicuik 1 Crossgates 1
