Right
from
the
start
Penicuik
went
on
the
attack
and
in
the
opening
minute
McCrory-Irving
saw
his
shot
save
by
Newman.
In
8th
minute
a
double
chance
fell
to
Penicuik,
but
both
attempts
were
off
target.
Then
McIntosh
saw
his
header
go
narrowly
over
the
bar.
Immediately
afterwards
a
dangerous
low
cross
along
the
six
yard
box
was
desperately
turned
away
for
a
corner.
From
the
corner,
Jones
saw
his
strike
flash
inches
over
the
bar.
In
their
next
attack,
Penicuik’s
Baptie
struck
a
fierce
shot
that
Newman
did
well
to
save.
On
the
quarter
hour,
Newman
rushed
from
goal
to
block
Sampson’s
effort.
Then
a
quickly
taken
Penicuik
free
kick
caught
the
Arniston
defence
flat
footed
but
Connolly
strike
whistled
past
the
upright.
In
the
30th
minute,
a
spectacular
scissor
kick
by
McCrory-Irving
flashed
over
the
bar.
Penicuik
continued
to
batter
the home defence, but failed to hit the back of the net with keeper Newman and central defender Butler outstanding.
Half Time: Penicuik 0 Arniston 0
Two
minutes
into
the
half
and
Crabbe
lobbed
keeper
Newman
but
Butler
got
back
to
hook
the
ball
off
the
goal
line.
Immediately
afterwards
Newman
pulled
off
a
superb
save
to
turn
a
Crabbe
pile
driver
over
the
bar.
Then
full
back
Stevenson
got
in
on
the
act
only
to
see
his
shot
well
saved
by
Newman.
In
the
62nd
minute,
Penicuik
finally
got
through
the
Arniston
defence
but
Crabbe
just
failed
to
tuck
the
ball
away.
Then
in
the
75th
minute
Somerville
headed
on
a
long
ball
to
Crabbe
who
chipped
the
ball
over
the
defender
and
SOMERVILLE
followed
up
the
blast
the
ball
first
time
past
Newman
for
what
turned
out
to
be
the
winning
goal.
In
Penicuik’s
next
attack,
keeper
Newman
pulled
off
the
save
of
the
match
with
a
one
handed
block
at
point
blank
range
to
deny
Penicuik
a
second
goal.
Arniston
then
had
their
best
spell
of
the
when
they
moved
to
three
up
front
but
despite
their
best
efforts,
couldn’t
get
the
equaliser.
Then
Somerville
chipped
the
ball
over
Newman,
but
Butler
again
came
to
the
rescue,
hooking
the
ball
off
the
line.
In
a
last
gasp
attempt
for
the
equaliser, a long range Arniston strike whistled inches past the Penicuik post.
