The first half was a bit of a non-entity with neither side able to break done the opposition’s defence. In fact it took until the 31st minute before the first real strike on goal occurred, but Penicuik’s Kateleza saw his effort fly high over the bar. Penicuik looked the sharper of the two sides, controlling the game and dominating possession, but lacked that final cutting edge. Half Time: Kennoway 0 Penicuik 0 However, right from the restart Penicuik upped the pace of their game and it only took three minutes to get the opening goal. Ponton slipped the ball to Kateleza who cut the ball back to the middle of the box from where SAMPSON slotted home. At the other end, keeper Allison came to the rescue when Band got round the back of the Penicuik defence smothering the ball at the striker’s feet. Five minutes later it was 0-2 when MacDonald was felled in the box for a penalty kick that KATELEZA drilled into the roof of the net giving keeper Paterson no chance. In the 58th minute a first time volley by Kennoway off a corner kick flew high over the bar. Penicuik almost increased their lead in the 66th minute when substitute Sinclair lobbed the ball over Paterson but was ruled offside before he could put the finishing touch to his effort. Penicuik seemed to switch off and looked content with their two goal lead but Kennoway were not finished yet and in the 85th minute they were awarded a penalty kick and BAND sent Allison the wrong way to give his side a late lifeline, but Penicuik saw out the remainder of the match for a well-earned three points. Final Score: Kennoway 1 Penicuik 2
