Carnoustie started the sharper, but it was Penicuik who threatened  first when a shot by Somerville in the 5th minute went narrowly past the upright. Minutes later, Forbes did just enough to  deflect away a dangerous Urquhart cross to the back post. Penicuik almost took the lead in the 13th minute when a  Forbes header off a corner kick was cleared off the line and a follow up strike was deflected on to the crossbar. Then a  Baptie free kick picked out Somerville, but his header went straight into the arms of keeper Robbie. In their next attack,  Baptie set up Ponton on the left but his cross into the box saw the strike on goal deflected over the bar for a corner. On  the half hour, Somerville drove at the visitor’s defence only to see his curling shot go just over the bar with keeper Robbie  watching anxiously. At the other end a long range effort by Dignan had Allison back pedalling, but the ball went wide of  the target. Play then swung to the other end when keeper Allison’s long clearance saw Ponton nip in to lob the ball over  the advancing keeper, but his effort went past the post.   Half time: Penicuik 0 Carnoustie 0  In the opening minutes of the second half, a free kick to Carnoustie was headed high over the bar. One minute later,  following strong pressure by the visitors, keeper Allison was beaten, but Forbes, on the goal line stopped the ball  crossing the line with his hand and a penalty was awarded despite the rebound being driven into the net. Forbes was  given a straight red card and an early bath. Simpson stepped up to take the spot kick, but keeper Allison guessed right to  pull off an excellent save. In the 59th minute, a Penicuik free kick was chested down by Somerville to Sampson, but his  powerful shot brought out a top drawer save by Robbie to turn the ball away for a corner kick. Despite being down to ten  men, Penicuik were looking the sharper side and a slick passing move deserved a better finish, but MacDonald’s effort  flew high over the bar. In the 65th minute, a well delivered Carnoustie corner kick saw an excellent header and an  equally great save by Allison. Into injury time and the Gowfers centre back Roche was sent off after receiving a second  yellow card. From the free kick Penicuik had a great chance to take all three points, but Williams blasted the ball over the  bar. Final Score: Penicuik 0 Carnoustie 0
