charged up the right wing, sent over a cross into the box but Somerville’s first time header flashed past the upright with
keeper Young rooted to the spot. Then a fine passing move by Penicuik culminated with a Somerville shot that went just
wide of the target. In the 15th minute a corner to Bonnyrigg was headed narrowly over the crossbar by former Penicuik
player Lough. Five minutes later, Penicuik survived a scare when keeper Allison lost his footing but the Cuikie defence
rallied to clear the danger. On the half hour, a corner to Bonnyrigg on the right saw Allison rise to clutch the ball under
severe pressure. The home side drew level in the 34th minute when CURRIE blasted a superb 30 yard free kick over the
defensive wall into the top right hand corner of the net. However, Penicuik restored their lead in the 41st minute when
BARR slotted home. One minute later came a point of controversy in the game when a corner to Bonnyrigg was adjudged
by referee Smith to have crossed the line much to the disbelief of the Penicuik players.
Half Time: Bonnyrigg 2 Penicuik 2
Bonnyrigg resumed the second half with a higher tempo that the first 45 minutes and Penicuik were forced on the
defensive. Bonnyrigg broke up the right wing and Gray got his head to the cross but Allison was well placed to save
comfortably. At the other end a shot by McCrory-Irving was easily gathered by Young. The home side took the lead in the
61st minute when BRETT charged up the right wing, broke through the Penicuik defence and drilled the ball low past
Allison low into the far corner of the net. Then Bonnyrigg attacked up the left and McIntosh fired off a thunderous shot that
keeper Allison did brilliantly to save. In the 85th minute, a poor pass by Forbes to Hume was taken advantage of by
McIntosh but he tried to be too clever and lob the keeper only to see his effort go wide of the upright.
