Referee: Mr Evan Cairns This thrice postponed 4th round Scottish Junior Cup tie was switched to Penicuik because of adverse weather conditions at Cromdale. Penicuik set out their stall straight from the kick off when a Jancyzk strike was gathered at the second attempt by keeper Sellars. Spey replied with a long range shot by Kennedy, but his effort went well wide of the target. One minute later, Sellars was back in action pulling off a great block to deny Weir. In the 7th minute, Jancyzk set up Weir, but his powerfully struck shot was brilliantly tipped over the bar by Sellars. Penicuik took the lead in the 13th minute when YOUNG rose above the Spey defence to head home a Gay corner kick. In a rare Spey attack, Bobrowski went for goal from 40 yards out, but Bejaoui saved comfortably. Then in the 19th minute, Penicuik were awarded a soft penalty, but keeper Sellars anticipated correctly diving to his left to turn McCallum’s spot kick round the post. Minutes later, following some desperate defending in the Spey penalty box, the unfortunate CARLING thumped the ball into his own goal. In the 29th minute, a great run and cross down the right wing by Cunnison saw McCallum’s header come back off the woodwork and cleared. On the half hour another corner to Penicuik caused mayhem in the Spey penalty area with the ball hitting the post and then Sellars tipped the next effort on to the bar before the danger was cleared. Then Weir, inside the six yard box, shot over the bar when it seemed easier to score. Penicuik increased their lead in the 34th minute when GAY curled a free kick over the top of the defensive wall into the top corner of the net beating Sellars all ends up. Two minutes later, GAY slotted home from close range. Just before half time, McCallum came close with a header off a pinpoint cross by Cunnison. Half Time: Penicuik 4 Spey Valley 0 Five minutes into the half and a free kick to Spey picked out McGhie, but he scooped his shot high over the bar. Penicuik continued to press the visitors, but some solid defending and good luck kept the score at 4-0. However, in the 69th minute, McGregor played a free kick back to keeper Sellars who, under pressure from Weir miskicked his clearance. Substitute PATTERSON gathered the ball, got past Tarran and slotted the ball past Sellars for a fine opportunist goal. Then in the 81st minute, White intercepted a clearance, strode forward and struck for goal. Sellars did well to beat the ball away, but PATTERSON pounced on the rebound and knocked the ball into the empty net. Penicuik piled on the pressure in the closing minutes and were awarded a penalty in the 90th minute when Gay was pulled down in the box. GAY took the spot kick striking it powerfully into the bottom corner of the net for his hat trick earning him the Man of the Match award on his 250th appearance for the club. Final Score: Penicuik 7 Spey Valley 0
