125 anniversary friendly matches hosted by the Penicuik Athletic ‘Legends’ team. The friendly against a Hibs ‘Legends’ team, was played on Friday evening 31st May, 2013. The teams were: Penicuik Legends: Roddy McLeod, Kevin Milne, Michael Banks, Paul Riley, Brian Foster, Bobby Forrest, Darren Rose, Stevie Mitchell, Paul Lindsay, Bryan Ryrie & Willie McGinley. SUBS; Raymie Sandison, Snowy McKean, Andy Seaton, Gary Small, Simon Rennie, Conrad Dick, Scott Montgomery, Ian Crail, Brian Hancock, Paul Drummond, Johnny Harvey. Hibs Legends; Billy Bald, Gordon Hunter, Calum Milne, Willie Jamieson, Gareth Evans, Mark McGraw, Fraser Ogilvie, Kevin Harper, Lee Bailey, Graham Harvey & Keith Wright. SUBS; Conan MacDiarmid, Michael Weir. Hibs won 0-4 A fact that may not be known by many fans is that Hibs provided a strong team to open Eastfield Park in 1947. Also, Jock Paterson who played 370 games for Hibs, was signed from Penicuik. The friendly against a Hearts ‘Legends’ team was played on 18th Aug 2013, with Hearts winning 4-7. The teams were: Penicuik Legends: Roddy McLeod, Craig Coyle, Paul Lindsay, Willie McGinley, Brian McGarry, Willie Hogg, Conrad Dick, Brian Hancock, Scott Bradford, Dougie Hope, Gary Small, Jason Young, Ally McCulloch, Ian Crail, Neil Devine, Scott Gibb, Darren Rose, Stuart ‘Snowy’ McKean, David Roseburgh, Bryan Ryrie, Simon Rennie, Gary Small Hearts Legends: Henry Smith, Gary MacKay, Jim Rae, Alan ‘Chalky’ White, Jim Hamilton, Brian McNaughton, Mark Bradley, Ian Ferguson, John Robertson, Scot Crabbe, Alan Lawrence, Kris O’Neil, Steven Finlayson, Gary Sutherland, Tulley   It is also worth mentioning that former Penicuik players Eddie Thompson and Malcolm Robertson played for Hearts as well as Penicuik playing Hearts in the Scottish proper in 1939. Links between the two clubs go back even further to Penicuik’s first season in 1888 when we met Hearts reserves in the reserve team competition and, following the sudden death of one of Penicuik’s players in 1896, Hearts provided a team to raise funds for the widow and children. Penicuik will be managed by former Penicuik player and Manager Willie Hume who played for and managed Penicuik including captaining them at Hampden in the Scottish Junior Cup Final as well as guiding them to success along with Rab Buchan, winning two league titles. He will be assisted by another former Penicuik player and manager Willie McGinley who oversaw Penicuik’s promotion through the leagues following their return to junior football in 2002.
