The opening fifteen minutes of the game were evenly contested with the first attempt on goal coming from Penicuik, but Smith sliced his strike wide of the target. Then at the other end Bald had to look lively to smother a strike from the left corner of the penalty box. In the 25th minute, a neat chip over the East Craigie defence picked out Barr, but his effort floated harmlessly over the crossbar. Two minutes later, a swift break from defence set Draper free on the left but Roxburgh was just inches away from connecting with Draper's cross. In the 32nd minute the deadlock was broken when SMALL blasted a great strike into the top corner of the net giving Bald no chance. The goal certainly woke up Penicuik and they upped the pace of their game. In the 40th minute, Draper drove into the box, slipped the ball to Barr who crossed the ball on the run and the ball was deflected past his own keeper by ANDERSON. One minute later, Penicuik took the lead when Draper again took on the East Craigie defence, cut the ball back to BARR who drilled the ball into the bottom right hand corner of the net. Two minutes later, Draper and McDermott combined down the left, from where McDermott crossed the ball to Roxburgh, but his shot went wide of the target. In Penicuik's next attack, Smith beat two men, but again his shot was well wide of the goal. Right on the 45th minute, Roxburgh showed delightful skills turning two defenders only to see his effort brilliantly saved by Logie. Half Time: East Craigie 1 Penicuik 2 Straight from the restart, a Roxburgh flick set up Smith, but his strike was partially blocked allowing Logie to gather comfortably. In the 49th minute, a Roxburgh cross was blocked, driven back in, blocked again and the next effort was headed off the line and cleared. One minute later a strike by Draper beat Logie in goal, but struck the woodwork and went out for a goal kick. Then in the 57th minute, a sweeping move from defence by East Craigie saw SMALL slam home the equaliser from the edge of the penalty box. Then in the 69th minute, the home side took the lead. A corner from the right side was fizzed over and was missed by everyone except McFARLANE at the back post who volleyed the ball into the roof of the net. Minutes later Small had a chance, but his header went straight to Bald in goal. At the other end, an excellent cross into the box was met first time by Barr, but Logie pulled off a great save to tip the ball over the bar for a corner kick. Penicuik were back on level terms in the 76th minute when a McDermott free kick was headed  by O'Reilly, but the ball came back off the post and bounced off McFARLANE into the net. In the 80th minute,  Brigain had a chance but his netbound strike was turned round the post by keeper Logie, however the referee awarded a goal kick much to the amazement of everyone in the ground. Two minutes later, Small, who had caused problems all day for Penicuik, sent over a superb cross, but fortunately for Penicuik there were no takers for the home side. Then a Knight strike was tipped over the bar by Logie. Deep into injury time a McDermott free kick was only partially cleared and O'Reilly's strike crashed back off the crossbar and the full time whistle was blown. The home side went on to win the penalty shootout 5-4.
