A tough price to pay when they should have won convincingly away at Abbey Park. Penicuik started brightly with Harvey forcing a good save by Wilson when he had to dive low to his right to turn the shot round the post for a corner. From the corner, Montgomery’s pile driver was deflected narrowly past the post by one of his own players. In the 8th minute, a quick break by Kilwinning saw Bald pull off a great one handed save to deny Hart. One minute later Bald was again in action to save a McGregor free kick. Minutes later a sweeping move by Penicuik culminated with a first time strike by Brigain, but his effort went straight into the arms of Wilson. In the 14th minute Brigain and Harvey were inches away from making contact with a superb Montgomery cross. The ball was then booted up the park and Bald had to rush 30 yards from goal to clear. Then McGregor was fortunate to stay on the park after a terrible late tackle on Montgomery. The game continued to flow from end to end until the 33rd minute when a soft free kick was awarded to Kilwinning. With everyone expecting a cross into the box, McGREGOR deceived Bald with a 30 yard strike that dipped over his outstretched arm into the net. Half time: Penicuik 0 Kilwinning 1 Two minutes into the second half, Penicuik pushed the Buffs back into their own box where Barr turned quickly, but his shot was hit straight at Wilson. Immediately afterwards, Kilwinning were under severe pressure, again in there own box, but two strikes by Penicuik were desperately block and the danger cleared. In the 57th minute, a great low cross by Robertson into the penalty box was picked up by substitute Millar, but his effort narrowly missed the target. In the 71st minute, Holden headed a corner to Kilwinning high over the bar. Penicuik continued to pile on the pressure, but were finding it difficult to break down a resolute defence. In the 79th minute, another good move by Penicuik ended when the ball just wouldn’t drop for Millar to strike, and again the Buffs defence held firm. Three minutes later, Robertson got round the back of the Kilwinning defence, but his low hard cross to the front post was scrambled clear for a corner. In the 83rd minute, Campbell was red carded for what appeared to be a high foot offence – a harsh decision when you consider the tackle committed by McGregor earlier in the game. However the decision did not deter Penicuik who continued to press forward. Into injury time, with the Buffs on the back foot, a strike from the edge of the box flew narrowly wide of goal. In the dying seconds a header at the back post was netbound for the equaliser when it struck a Penicuik player and went out for a goal kick.
