Penicuik 1 Bonnyrigg 1

In the opening minute following a poor kick out by keeper Atai, Noon picked up the loose ball and saw his shot blocked by Atai. From the rebound, his second effort hit the side netting. Then a mix up between Steel and Bald allowed ex Penicuik player Cameron a strike on goal but his effort was well wide of the target. Immediately afterwards a Bonnyrigg free kick curled narrowly past the post. In the 13th minute, Cameron out jumped the Penicuik defence at a corner kick, but headed over the bar.

At the other end, a flick on by Noon picked out Walker. He got past two defenders, but was eventually crowded out and the danger cleared. On the half hour, Noon was inches away from tapping a Coleman cross into the Bonnyrigg net. In their next attack, Barr set up Noon, but Atai pulled off an excellent save low down to his left. One minute later, Atai was scrambling across his goal line as he watched a 35 yard drive by Gay scrape past his right hand post. Then, following a Bonnyrigg free kick, Bald was well positioned to save the header.

Half Time: Penicuik 0 Bonnyrigg 0

Two minutes into the second half, Noon wriggled his way past two Bonnyrigg defenders and laid the ball off to Gay. He struck the ball powerfully but it whistled inches past the keeper’s right hand post. In the 51st minute, a flowing move up the left wing by Penicuik saw Coleman cross the ball to the front post. The ball was flicked on and was net bound until Noble booted the ball clear. Four minutes later, a defence splitting pass left Barr one on one with the keeper, but Atai blocked Barr’s attempt on goal and his second effort was deflected past for a corner. At the other end, Grady came close after good work by Montgomery.

Bonnyrigg took the lead in the 59th minute when they broke quickly from defence and GRADY drove in from the right wing to give Bald no chance with a well struck shot into the bottom right hand corner of the net. Penicuik refused to lie down and battled back into the game and in the 63rd minute got their just reward when WALKER beat the offside trap to slot the ball past the advancing Atai. Four minutes later, keeper Atai pulled off the save of the match beating away a well struck Coleman shot. Then Cameron had a great chance at the other end, but ballooned his shot high over the bar. In the 72nd minute, following a Bonnyrigg corner kick, Bald was at full stretch to save. In Penicuik’s next attack, substitute Robertson dragged his shot narrowly past the post. Then a header by Cole was inches off the target.

This was a vast improvement in the Penicuik performance, that showed the right attitude and effort required. If they show the same application in every game then the results will speak for themselves.
